DO WANT
On a lighter note, I pre-ordered this today (get it? NOTE?):

It’s funny, I’m not even very into
Death Note, but I absolutely love the character L. @_@ Can’t wait for that spinoff movie ;)
Sometime tomorrow I’ll try to find time to talk about my trip to the Asian Art Museum in San Francisco for the Tezuka exhibit, although you can see most of the good pics from it here.
But I have my weekly reckoning tomorrow, and I still have to spend some more time with that Manga Fighter game and try to get it to work so I can write up a bit on it @_@ Yargh!

WTF is going on?

Christ, there’s a lot of hullabaloo on the ‘net today. SlashThrough2007, Kodomo no Jikan, Anime > Sex at Wikipedia, Rozen Maiden ending, and all sorts of other junk.Let’s see, where to start…I guess the LJ thing sort of hit the fan first, so let’s get there, shall we? And I should note that since I’ve been a very poor LJ’er lately, I’m not necessarily the most up on how things went down…

According to ComiPress, a 17-year-old boy in Japan who killed his mother and took her severed head to the police station (where he confessed to killing her) was possibly influenced by the manga
MPD Psycho. Actually, their headline is “
MPD Psycho Causes Teenager to Murder His Own Mother?”Sorry to break it to you, ComiPress, but I’m willing to bet that that kid had Issues even before he read the manga. Manga, video games, movies - they don’t
cause the violent acts. They may inspire specifics for such an act, but people who are going to snap will snap - if it wasn’t a manga that set him off, it would have been something else.
That said, I don’t know whether I should feel bad for Dark Horse or congratulate them. They’re releasing the first volume of MPD Psycho tomorrow. On the one hand? Boom! Instant press. On the other hand? Well…it’s not the most positive press. Hmm.

Well said, Shinsen. Well said indeed.I don’t usually follow the super-long shounen series much -
Naruto’s never been my thing (I admit it: I met the fandom before the series, and the fans spooked me from it), I had pretty much given up on
Bleach by the time the fillers even started (I miss the Ichigo and Rukia banter; suddenly Rukia’s locked in a tower somewhere and Ichigo has to save her? Lame!), never was into
DBZ, etc.But I really like the fantasy 19th-century Europe aesthetic of
D.Gray-man, so I started following the series - manga and anime. And now the anime is in filler, for no discernible reason since I’m aware that there’s plenty more in the manga that hasn’t happened yet in the anime. It’s the first time I’ve ever had filler really affect my viewing. That said, these little solo arcs aren’t too bad - especially the bits where you get to see Kuro-chan and Miranda on their journey to become bona fide excorcists. But as always, they start to get a little warying…I’m not a Kanda fan so I’ll probably just skip ep 33, which is Kanda-centric. Fortunately Lenalee should be popping back up in the next few episodes, huzzah!

Not as many series as the first part, but hey, we’re now getting into the shows I’m not actually all that excited about. So, without further ado…

This entry was swiped directly from my blog over at animeOnline. It’s a little old; I’ve watched a lot more of these shows but haven’t really changed opinion on them. Part II is coming up next.
So. LOTS of new anime this season, and I’m trying to catch as much of it as possible…or at least as many first episodes as possible. And I have so many yet left to watch! But, here are some of my early impressions:

Dear Bones,I know you like including comic relief episodes in your series. And most of the time, I’m okay with that.
However, in a show with as serious a tone as Darker Than Black, it’s sort of akin to putting a speed bump in the middle of a 65mph freeway. Much better to keep the comic relief to banter and one-liners throughout the series. In other words, get this redhead and her idiot boss out of my show, and give me more Hei.
Love,me

I have exactly one word to say about this episode: FINALLY.

Ecstatic

First off - I’m at Fanime Con, and I got a Gurren Lagann DRILL *_* It was at Gainax’s Gurren Lagann panel. <3
But back to the topic at hand: Gurren Lagann episode 8. I find it kind of distressing how many people were shocked by what happened in this episode. o_O; But I’ll talk about it in detail under a jump, for the sake of spoilers. Read the rest of this entry »
