Gurren Lagann

ADV just licensed Gurren Lagann, so I can’t wear my Yoko gear. Which I hadn’t even gotten the chance to try and convince my boss to let me wear. *pout*

By the way - I was right.

Anime Expo Doujinshi

…But not much! I picked up some manga at the Go! Comi booth (Train + Train volume two, After School Nightmare volume four), and then I headed to Hen Da Ne! for some doujinshi ♥

I would like to note, for the record, that as usual I bought more het than yaoi. Two yaoi Geass doujinshi (and one’s just gag, not smut), two het Geass doujinshi (one CC, one Viletta), and two het Gurren Lagann doujinshi (one Yoko, one Nia - yay for Hen Da Ne being fast, even if that guy who does all the yelling about the yaoi is a complete asshole).

I have a friend of mine keeping a watch out for my Geass figure that I want, though I don’t hold a ton of hope that he’ll be able to find it, but beyond that, all I have left to buy is…a big stack of manga. I should make a list of stuff so I actually know what to look for. *grumble*

Anyway. I’ve covered VIZ, Seven Seas, Bandai Visual USA, and the Haruhi seiyuu panels so far, and I’m hanging around waiting for the Aurora Publishing panel, after which I will meet my boss (and, quite possibly, my coworker Dale, who I have yet to actually meet in person).

No really major news so far; VIZ didn’t announce a single new license, amazingly. It looks like they’re saving up for Otakon. 7S is broadening their ranges to include both yaoi and children’s books - go figure. BVU snagged Super Robot Wars and a CG Gundam spinoff called MS Igloo. They SAY they’re not going to start taking over the Gundam franchise from Bandai Entertainment, but we’ll see.

Alrighty, just a few minutes until Aurora. I’ve declined to wait in line for a raffle ticket and swag bag. (Hopefully I can get the swag later, and I’m not sure I’m even allowed to enter raffles. I’m so well-behaved I can hardly stand myself!)

Ahhh, the Expo

It seems to me that if you’re in Southern California, and you’re not currently camping out to buy an iPhone, chances are pretty good that you’re at or near Anime Expo. Cuh-raaaaazy.

I’m going to try and attend the anime blogger meet thing tonight, but it will depend on what my boss expects me to be doing at that point, of course.

I’ll be at the Viz, Seven Seas, Bandai Visual, Haruhi seiyuu, and Aurora panels today, plus maybe the SKIN concert. We’ll see…

Death Note 37

I’m completely tsundere for Death Note. I love L. I hate Light. Every time I watch the show I get sucked in, but as soon as I step away from it it occurs to me how much I detest most of the plot. So what do I do? Watch the first ~7 or so eps of the anime, and then only tune in for the important parts. I haven’t so much as cracked open a copy of the manga.

But anyway, the final episode is one of those important parts, sooo there we have it. The animation of the swimming lessons (spoilers/parody scanlation! you have been warned!) was minimal, which led to the whining of many fans, but I was just glad to see it end.

…At least until that L spin-off movie comes out, I guess. The fangirl in me kind of hopes that a whole L spin-off franchise, complete with manga and maybe anime, happens in the end. I really just like the character and would love to see more about him. But, we’ll see.

Now we just have to see if my boss will let me wear any of it at AX. ;D

DMP Platinum to launch with Speed Racer manga…probably.

DMP just sent out a press release saying that they’re going to announce the first title of their new DMP Platinum manga line at Anime Expo. They offered three hints as to the title:

1. Characters have hawked insurance and been parodied on Family Guy.
2. There is, has been, or will be a major motion picture based on it.
3. If you haven’t heard of it you’ve been living under a rock for 30 years. (Or more like 40…)

Gee! I wonder!

Summer 2007 Watch List

Current Mood: Determined emoticon Determined

Summer 2007

So my Summer Preview feature is up at work, which naturally gets me thinking about what I’m going to watch this summer. Above is the stuff I’m definitely interested in: Baccano!, Umisho, Sayonara Zetsubou-sensei, Zero no Tsukaima, Zombie-Loan, and Mushi-Uta.

Baccano! just sounds kinda fun, with the mafia and the alchemy and the 1930’s NYC stuff going on. Umisho…I’m surprised I’m even interested, since it looks kind of like Love Hina but with swimming, but I still want to check it out. I think because it looks like Love Hina but with a crazy chick instead of a dumb tsundere bitch for the female lead. We’ll see.

Sayonara Zetsubou-sensei just sounds like fun dark comedy, and of course I enjoyed season one of Zero no Tsukaima so I’ll watch season 2. I’m curious about Zombie-Loan, especially since Peach-Pit is getting so anime-heavy with Z-L and Shugo Chara! both being made into anime in the same year.

And Mushi-Uta looks kinda neat. I’m more interested in the humanoid mushi with the gun than in the green-haired moe chick or the normal dude though. So we’ll see.

On the second tier, “stuff I’m interested in but not sure about”: Buzzer Beater, Code-E, Doujin Work, and Shigurui. Also on this list are Higurashi and Tokyo Majin, but I didn’t watch the first season of either so I’m not really sure…

But as always, I want to watch at least as many first eps as I possibly can. Which should be easier, since there are fewer. Though I don’t know if I’ll get to (or if anyone will even sub) the kids’ shows, like Happy Happy Clover or Fight Tension School

Lucky Star 10 and Meet Yuki-chan

Lucky Star 10

Why is this show so awesome? I know many people find it irritating, but I’m constantly surprised by how fun it is - the writers really know their audience. Yes, it’s really just a constant stream of inside jokes…but so are many Kevin Smith flicks and they’re still awesome.

Laptops
In other news: my brand-new shiny laptop showed up TWO WEEKS EARLY, e.g. yesterday. I didn’t want to share her until I got stickers for her all printed and stuff. (I got into the habit of putting stickers all over my laptops. Don’t ask me how, I don’t know.) In the above picture, the computer on the left is Sumomo, my old Dell Inspiron 1100 which did me pretty well for four years. On the right, I introduce: Yuki. Bigger pic after the jump if you want to see what exactly those stickers are. Read the rest of this entry »

Hayate 11, Kaze no Stigma 8-9

Current Mood: Disappointed emoticon Disappointed

Hayate 11

Better that than all this seriousness! What’s with all this non-gag, potentially-serious drama in my Hayate?

Moving along…I’m considering dropping Kaze no Stigma.

Kaze no Stigma 9

I’ll admit it: I can be a bit of a girly-girl when it comes to romance. So I instinctually want Kazuma and Ayano to get together, since that’s pretty clearly what the series and all of its characters are gearing up for. However, in order for me to enjoy watching that happen, Ayano has to be a little less of a dumb tsundere bitch, and Kazuma has to have his ego deflated a lot. Oh, and he has to quit beating up fairies, too.

Kaze no Stigma 9 - II
So, we’ll see.
