Rozen Maiden: The Dub

…Oh…the misery…
Now, again, I haven’t liked a dub in something like 8-9 years, so please take everything I say with a grain of salt if you’re a dub fan. But holy crap, is it ridiculously bad o_o
It’s not just the dub voices, however - although they sound, like so many do in my mind, like the actors have put on a voice rather than acting, making the dialogue sound over-practiced and mechanical instead of flowing naturally.
It’s the script. In particular, I listened to a clip of Jun while he talks to himself about the instructions for getting his Rozen Maiden. In addition to him sounding WAY too young (he’s in junior high - which is the equivalent of 7th to 9th grade in Japan. That range can include ages 12 to 15, Geneon - but he sounds like a 4th grader), his attitude is way off.
The quote is something like: “Alternate dimensions…fairies! I have a feeling that this is going to be the bestest thing ever!”
First off, no goddamn junior high school student is going to be caught dead saying something like “bestest.” That’s elementary school crap at most.
Second off, he’s supposed to be a freakin’ emo kid! Wasn’t he being skeptical and cynical during this part in the original version, for crying out loud? Why on earth would you change him into an excited believer in magic?
And that, kids, is why the gia should not listen to dubs. (Though actually, Nori isn’t that bad.)
Nori’s voice is pretty good! I don’t like Shinku’s voice AT ALL! Shinku is not supposed to sound like that! >_
Hello! I think i found the voice’s worst then you did. the only two voice’s i liked in the whole thing (only watched upto ep.4) was hina and nori. everyone else made my ears bleed with there horrible
THe trick is– I didn’t listen to all of the voices ;)
