Zombie Loan And…Stuff

Zombie-Loan 1

Ahh, the first episode of Zombie-Loan. I won’t say that it’s brilliant TV, but it’s not bad so far. The art style is a bit weird for me compared to Rozen Maiden (chins and noses are so…damn…POINTY!), but I can live with that. As long as Michiru grows some balls, anyway.

And that’s my first summer show so far (got a few raws to check out though, plus the BSS Higurashi release - so quit trying to tell me about the damn show, people!). Now, on to the usual suspects:

Bokurano - Where are my fucking subs?!
Claymore - I kind of miss Raki, actually. Can it be timejump tiem nao plzz?
Darker than Black - See Bokurano
El Cazador - see Bokurano
Emma season 2 - see Bokurano
Gurren Lagann - Kinda dull right now, honestly. Waiting on another timejump here…
Hayate no Gotoku - The most consistently funny series from spring, definitely.
Heroic Age - Why do I keep watching this? And why has no one killed Deianeira’s retarded brothers loooong before now?
Kamichama Karin - Why do I keep watching this? And why has no one put me out of my retarded misery looooong before now?
Kaze no Stigma - Why do I keep watching this? And will Ayano and Kazuma stop being complete douches to each other?
Lovely Complex - Holy shit, a romantic comedy that doesn’t suck!
Lucky*Star - Dale and I kept doing “bye-bee” symbols at each other at AX. That’s all you really need to know about that.
Romeo x Juliet - Where are my fucking hormones? (No, really?)
Sisters of Wellber - Just started picking this up, and it’s not as bad as I expected. But, protip, subbers: CYRANO DE BERGERAC. Not Bulgerock. Not Voljirakku. THEY’RE TRYING TO SAY BERGERAC. Read maor!
Sumomomo Momomo - …see Bokurano, damnit.

And now, a fanfiction manifesto.

Okay, I admit it - I read fanfics. Certain series just lend well to the kind of fan-made stories I occasionally like to read. Admittedly, these stories are usually closer to trashy romance novels than anything intelligent - completely prurient reading. But anyway, I digress.

But lately there are a few things that are just driving me nuts that I wanted to write about. So here goes.

1. Get a freakin’ beta. Especially if you find yourself writing entire chapters without using the “shift” key or punctuation keys.

2. Know the major facts about your characters. If there happens to be a Catholic priest in your series, and you happen to want him to get married to another character, you DAMN well better address the fact that since Catholic priests can’t marry, he has to give up the priesthood to do it.

3. Just because there are an even number of men and women in your series does NOT mean you have to have each and every one of them hook up with one of the others.

4. Original characters suck approximately 95% of the time. Original characters that serve as romantic interest for a main character suck 99.9999% of the time. If you have to write a goddamn original character, be careful it isn’t just some Mary Sue/self-insertion bullshit.

5. If you are writing slash/femmeslash: one or two gay couples in a series can work. Everyone in a series suddenly being gay does not, unless it’s canon, or you’re some kind of slash parody.

6. EVERY TIME YOU FAIL TO USE SPELLCHECK, GOD KILLS AN ANGEL, or something.

7. If you do any of the following, kill yourself.
- …If you have one character refer to another as “child” (or “dear child,” or “sweet child,” or anything along those lines)
- …If you incorporate a song into a fanfic that is NOT a songfic. If you make a main character sing it, it’s even worse. And if you make an OC sing it, don’t kill yourself - I’d prefer to do it for you.
- …If you say in your summary that you suck at summaries. We can tell.
- …If you say in your summary that your story sucks. (If it sucks, don’t write it! Or at least keep it to your damn self!)
- …If you write a fanfic that is all about “what if [character] got pregnant?!” If it’s an angstfic, it’s even worse. And if the character who gets pregnant is male, don’t kill yourself - I’d prefer to do it for you.

…That’s all. FOR NOW.

[...] You laugh, but I’m serious: not several hours after I posted THIS, anon releases subs of Darker Than Black 13 and 14. Anon is watching this blog from afar! And I luff him for it. [...]

I dropped darker than black and will watch Zombie Loan and 2nd season of Higurashi. BTW, I’m staff on BSS fansubs. I’m the editor/QC/Proofreader lol.

Oh yeah, I’m watching El Cazador episode 13 right now. :P

You dropped DTB? I do not approve!

But I do approve of BSS, they’re doing good work. ♥

First of all, god does not exist, second of all, all homophobes must die, (what if a gay couple had a male-pregnancy, (IT’S CALLED FANFICTION) damn dork)

  6. gia Says:

Wow, I’ve never been called a homophobe before. In fact, I’m a yaoi fan. However, I find mpreg to be the most retarded fanfiction cliche in the history of the universe. And the vast majority of fanfics that focus on a character being pregnant suck regardless of gender. So, there you have it, Person Who Will Probably Never Actually Read This. :)

I finally was able to finish the first 11 episodes(season)of this series and I’ve got to say that I really like it. There are of course some themes that are repetitions of anime that I’ve seen so far, but than there are also ones that I find rather unique and novel. It has definitely made the top list of my favorite series, and I am really anxiously awaiting the next season.
