Protip: Don’t Be This Fan

From Canned Dogs comes this woeful tale of one fan’s struggle against The Man.

This otaku spent over ¥100,000 (~$832 USD) entering a lottery to win a rare item, held by the MMORPG Shin Megami Tensei Imagine, trying to win a Persona 2 uniform. He complained to Shin Megami company Cave about the auction, saying that because the uniform was not labeled a rare item, he had no way of knowing that there would be so many other obsessive fans trying to win the thing that even his 1,000 lottery entries wouldn’t let him win. Cave apologized and adjusted their list to reflect this, but refused to refund his money - a fact which surprised only the otaku in question, apparently.

So what did this fan do? He tried to take it to court, convinced that Cave was conning poor innocent otaku out of their hard-earned money, but it was thrown out. And then…he burned his own face in protest. Canned Dogs has a link to his blog, which apparently has a photo of his newly-cooked visage, but I just had lunch, so you’ll have to go to them to get it.

Ok. Went to the site which linked to the guy’s blog and saw the pic. It shows the right side of his face and the damage he did.

Man, other people’s kids, let me tell ya.

LOL I wish I had 10 cents for every time I’ve heard someone in a MMORPG or on some board swearing they are unhappy or otherwise in some tiny crisis about some aspect of the game, and how they are going to “sue the company.”

Good luck with that. EULA says you lose! Every time.

Game is a game. You don’t sue over a game. I’m surprised the company did anything but point and laugh, they didn’t have to do anything. Lottery doesn’t mean you win if you spend a lot of money, we call that an auction.

As for the burned face, well that’s just Darwin in action.
