I know the blogiverse is going crazy over some dopey article about people who are into “anime manga,” but I think I found something worse. (Edit: Due to popular demand - here is the “anime manga” article, and it was found by Brigid at MangaBlog.)
Meet AnimeMine, which is apparently a social networking website for “anime otakas.” Yes, OTAKAS. That is from THEIR press release, people. Yeesh.
(Edited #2: They’re pretty quick on the ball and have not only noticed my post, but also fixed their typo. I have included a screencap from the original version for the LULZ.)

(P.S. Sorry it’s been quiet here - between theO, some freelance deadlines, and me getting my ass kicked by a bad cold, it’s been hard to get shit done. Look for a big fat catch-up post later today, followed by me resuming my usual blogging activities.)

I was looking at AnimeMine earlier today and it didn’t impress me at all. Also, read the press release and couldn’t believe they said otakas.

Sorry you had a problem with the spelling error in the press release; but, thanks for pointing it out in such a pleasant way. We’ll get that fixed up!
We’re always open to constructive (even destructive if you must) comments in order to improve the site. We just want the place to be nice - if you’re not after nice, then I’m sure you can find lots of not nice places to hang out.

Hmm I liked animeOnline’s design better, the images they’re using looks like they used microsoft paint :P

Hey, what’s wrong with Microsoft Paint?
Kidding. Waiting for the larger main page art from the talented guy. The art on the page now looks like paint because it’s enlarged beyond its intended use.
Watch for the new look, I think you’ll approve.

Hmmm, I’m not aware of this dopey article about people who are into “anime manga” that you referred to. Care to enlighten? ^_^

Nebs, MangaBlog gets the credit for that one. Here’s their link: http://www.mangablog.net/?p=1135
Aaaand here’s the article link: http://www.upi.com/International_Intelligence/Analysis/2007/07/30/policy_watch_japans_cultural_power/8160/
It actually isn’t too bad, except that if they wanted to an article on the topic, they should have considered, you know, researching it a bit ;)

Oh man, this is classic stuff.
I guess… I guess I’d have to say it’s so bad that I don’t know where to begin. Haha.
And then the guy comes here to get all over defending how suck it is. This is wonderful stuff. What does that make the hit count? 12 or 15 people a day? Wonderful.
I’d tell you to stop encouraging these people Gia, but really, it’s more fun this way, I think.
Ahh, that was good.

I love those anime manga otakas! ROTFLMAO

For the record, I wasn’t here to defend the article - I don’t actually know anything about the so called “anime manga article”. It’s not associated with animemine. I was here to defend Microsoft Paint.
That said, I’m sure you can find lots of stuff not to like at animemine too. ;)

Oh man, I wasn’t even talking about the anime manga article. I was talking about the cookie cutter site you guys threw together without even properly getting all your resources together. Stretched out images? Software advert watermarks all over the place? That’s Busch League shit, man.
And it’s in a 90% default state, near as I can tell. I’m going to assume you’ve never run a website before… ever. Or at least, not a successful one. What’s the point of it? Why a press release? What am I missing here? Should I just go over to some other website for this shit? I mean, of course I should for one, but come on. COME ON. It’s crap.

Curious, looking at Archive.org, is the current Animemine related to the one from a few years ago? *seeing as how anime99 seems to be from the site* ;)

Hey Randall.
Thing is one day I’m hoping to look back and say, “over the next 3 and a half years, he was a lazy bastard and updated it very slowly, if ever at all”, in the third person even! :)
Or maybe I’ll get it to “the point” sooner. Who knows. It’s life’s useless little challenges that keep me going…
I’ll assume the rest of the questions were rhetorical.
I like your site - it’s nice.
Cheers!
