So I just got my Amazon.co.jp shipment for the month, containing the October issues of Newtype (JP), Animedia, Animage, and this month I also got The Sneaker, the light novel magazine that publishes Haruhi (among other things). As always, the swag is slightly overwhelming.

1. Darker than Black artbook.
2. Full-size Darker than Black poster (with Geass on the other side, but I already have Geass posters a-plenty…but where will I put it? T_T)
3. Gurren Lagann art/info book.
4. Evangeliwon tote bag.
5. Lucky Star poster.
6. Lucky Star stickers (which will be on my laptop shortly).
7. Haruhi fan (you have to have a handle for it, but it’s pretty nice– Noizi Ito is fabulous).
8. Zero no Tsukaima paper stands (there are Nanoha ones too).
9. Mushi-Uta art-book (*drool*)
10. An animator guidebook.

Most of the US mags come with, what, a centerfold and a DVD? Eh. Oh, and not pictured here– one of the mags comes with Lucky Star English/Japanese flash cards. Like, one side has a Japanese quote, and the other side has the English. AWESOME.

Shipment for the month? I wish I could have shipments for the month.

Also, me so jealous. And that Lucky Star poster is cute.

You can ^_^; You just have to order something off Amazon.co.jp every month ;) I do one order a month as soon as I see that Newtype, Animage, and Animedia are in; I tack on anything else I want at that time because the way shipping works, it’s like about $25 per order plus $2 per item– so the more items the better.

Sadly Amazon.co.jp will only ship books and CDs and magazines and whatnot. And most of the magazines I get I COULD get at my local Kinokuniya for cheaper in the end…but I get it 2-4 weeks earlier this way ^_^

Actually, I’ve really never purchased anything from Amazon.co.jp. Maybe I was thinking it was too expensive but perhaps I was wrong.

  4. scottfrye Says:

Not able to read Japanese and also never have bought these magazines before makes it really hard to find those magazines.

I know there is an English side to Amazon.co.jp but that doesn’t mean it’s easier to find what you want.

Of course, I could order the magazines from J-list.

Amazon.co.jp is STUPID expensive if you want just one or maybe two things– a single mangazine or manga might cost $5, and with shipping it’s $30.

But for 4 or 5 magazines that would cost me $40ish if they were available at a local store, $60 isn’t bad.

  6. scottfrye Says:

    Sorry, for the many comments.

Anyways, I have figured that ordering it Amazon.co.jp and J-list is actually about the same price (give or take a $1 or so).

I think the only difference I can see is that J-list will reserve you a copy each month and just bill you automatically each month.

Then the only thing I’d consider is how fast the delivery is. I ordered my mags the day they came out– Sunday here, Monday in Japan –and got them today. :)

  8. scottfrye Says:

That is true. I would spend more if I could get it faster.
