Apparently people on 2ch were joking about how the aforementioned girl-killing-dad-with-axe incident was kinda like Higurashi, which lead a few news publications to pick up on the story, which was then caught by a TV show…and hence, cancellation.
The power of the Internet, my friends: do not underestimate it. Fear it.

Bah! This censorship crap is gettin outta hand. Pretty soon, we’ll all be good little drones, watching only what the government and/or over protective soccer moms deem watchable.
I wonder what kind of shows they were watching back when the Spanish Inquisition was going on, cause we all know that that was nothing but feathers and lolipops…sheesh.
Sorry about the rant. Heh

Ehh, it’s not that uncommon in Japan– they preempted some of Cowboy Bebop back when it aired due to some external event, and then Full Metal Panic was delayed for like a full season or something when the 9/11 attacks happened in the US.
