Anime? In MY Entertainment Weekly?

Seriously, two weeks in a row (the 9/28 issue and the 10/5 issue), Entertainment Weekly has featured some otaku culture. First it was Takashi Murakami’s cover design for Kanye West, and then this week it’s Witchblade. Okay, okay, I know there are specific western attachments for both of those, since Kanye West is an American rapper and Witchblade was originally an American comic, but still.

Hit the jump to see some bits from the article (but I’m not reprinting them in their entirety, for the sake of having SOME semblence of respect for copyright).

Did they at least admit that there is a story behind the tits with Witchblade or is it “Ha ha silly anime have no plot, only bewbs!”

@electric_goldfish: They seem pretty positive about it. In spite of “sexualizing Mom,” they say the show manages to be both kid- and parent-friendly while offending neither. (Honestly, from the trailers and stuff I’ve seen, I’m amazed to hear that.)

I was surprised to read that too on the magazine. EW has done anime reviews in the past and they have been good reviews, specially with anything Ghibli, I ‘m just glad that it’s been covered in a positive light. But yeah, I’ve seen a few episodes of the witchblade anime when it was being fansubbed and it kicks ass imo. It’s an updated version of the comic and it has the original spirit of the comic as well.
