Thoughts:
If nothing else, Moyashimon has probably the most unique premise of the season: main character Tadayasu can see, hear, and talk to microbes– like, without a microscope. He can identify them not from having studied but from seeing them in daily life. He and his friend Kei are accepted into a university on the outer edge of Tokyo, where he is forced to prove his ability by a pair of goofy scientists.
It’s an absolutely wacky comedy, ranging from gags about dead seals with dead seagulls stuffed inside of them to the more subtle THERE ARE NO FEMALE SCIENTISTS THAT HOT bit, conveyed by the mere fact that there is a hot scientist chick in the series. I kinda could have done without the dead seals and seagulls and stuff (you’ll see what I mean when you watch), but it was still frankly pretty hilarious.
But does it have enough to sustain a whole series? Time will tell…
its only 11 eps.
i hope it will be like Potemayo (which was hilarious) and hoping for more eps (if it can be funny as this ep)
i agree, i know a couple of women who are scientist and THERE IS NO SUCH THING AS A HOT FEMALE SCIENTISTS.
Oh, god. I was just about to start in on a tasty hot beverage when that guy started sucking fermented seagull fluids. I didn’t know which way to turn.
Also, the true attraction of the female scientist, as anyone knows, is the nerd-charm factor. I assume she’ll be the butt of much humor.
On the plus side, at least the seagull bit was educational ( it’s a real .. ‘delicacy’? — see http://www.riuva.com/?p=763 ).
And as for hot female scientists, you really need to go and check out the science departments in a university sometime. And the science lectures too. Plenty of hot female scientists there, though there do still seem to be more men than women, but still. They do exist, and they’re not even rare, so now you know :) Now, when you get a hot female scientist who likes anime, you know you’re onto something.
@Random Visitor: Oh noez! I forgot that flippant comments in anime reviews are Serious Business! XD
I know a fair few good-looking female scientists. I meant that statement about as much as I do when I say that there are no women on the Internet. It’s a joke about stereotypes, not a serious belief. ;)
:D Just realised my post might’ve seemed a little harsh, sorry ^_^, that’s what you get from commenting when the only reason you’re still awake is caffeine. But no, seriously, I love the blog, great commentary too, I was just making a passing comment. Lately they’ve been advertising a lecture around here about how women are no good at science (it’s meant to be a debate, I think), so when I read this too, I just wanted to shout “noo! it’s not true! really it’s not!”, and now back to work :/
