I’m crazy busy for the weekend, and what do you do? You go and license Lucky Star and outsource production to Bandai Entertainment, or at least so sayeth Japanator. I’m going to go cry on a bishounen’s shoulder now.

What’s so bad about LS being licensed? The way I see it is:

    Pros:
    More publicity for it
Chance to get lots of cool LS stuff like with Haruhi

    Cons:
    No more free fansubs
    Dubs suck

And any real fans of the show will be willing to pay for it, so the lack of free fansubs is just fine. That and technically we shouldn’t be downloading fansubs anyways (see http://giapet.net/?p=636), although nobody really cares about that.

As for the part about dubs sucking, you don’t have to watch the dubs if you don’t want to. Or maybe we’ll get lucky and the dubs will actually be good.

Unfortunately, LS is one of the shows that if you haven’t heard of it yet, you probably will never hear of it, screwing up my first pro point.
While highly popular, I wouldn’t exactly consider it mainstream. It just has too much to do with otaku culture, so the “normals” wouldn’t really understand it.

So, I’ll personally reserve judgment for now, but still be optimistic that Bandai will give it what Japanator calls “the Haruhi treatment”, giving out loads of free stuff with the DVDs. Failing that, well, I’ll be as pissed as anyone else.

Whoa, whoa, whoa! Sorry, I forgot the Internets are Serious Business!

I was bitching about the fact that it was announced on the weekend I’m super crazy busy and wasn’t on top of the announcement, not about the fact that it was licensed ;)

Well, on one hand this means that hopefully, we will have Wendee Lee doing both Haruhi and Konata, which makes it expecially great in the scene used to promo it. So the question becomes will Kadokawa and Bandai, wuss out and go for an overly cute atress instead, I’m hoping Wendee Lee will come back, BTW to anyone out there is there anything out there of her doing a cute role, and what series? I’d like to see if shes proper for Konata.

Second I agree, ultra super good limited editions, of which Bandai has always been good with. Though I have no money for any of the Haruhi ones (Cries alittle inside) It would still be extremly great to compliment Haruhi on a shelf.

Wendee Lee shouldn’t be Konata…. i don’t think shed be for it. Kona’s voice isn’t based on haruhi, they share a VA and used it for publicity, but i dont think it should, or would, work like that here.

  5. gia Says:

I’m with kurono k– it’s kinda neat in concept, but I don’t get the sense that Wendee Lee would suit Konata very well. (Though of course, I don’t really care since I don’t watch dubs much.)

  6. yuetheguardian Says:

Well, my suggestion was based on the shared scene, with Aya Hirano, briskly changing between Haruhi and Konata, that scene just had so much Charm, and yes Gia I don’t really care as much I’m a sub watcher myself, but I have friends who only watch dubs. So then I guess no evidence of a cute role for Wendee Lee huh? I just want more of a closeness to the Japanese, I hate it when something from the japanese vocal wise just falls to the cuting room floor, whether it be a joke, or the switch of haruhi. If they have Wendee Lee singing for Enoz then I think anything may be possible. I think Bandai is one of the best places though for Lucky Star regardless if your a sub or a dub fan, unlike ADV this would have a decent amount of special features, and the limited Editions with come with the Lucky Star CDs, BTW I hope they put the Ending theme CD with all the fun song renditions in one of the limiteds. Best limited Edition I got from Bandai was the the final .Hack Sign disc, with the additional Unison episode that tied the game and the anime together. I hope Lukcy Star will get that kinda love.

  7. gan-chan Says:

Well, at least Bandai having it means all the Haruhi references can stay in.

  8. kurono k Says:

but what about the full metal panic episodes?

  9. yuetheguardian Says:

no problem Kadokawa owns FMP second raid at least.

  10. Roryo Says:

Where’s Gia!? It’s been days! Meellllttting.

  11. kurono k Says:

    agreed-

Well we spawned the ewekly japanator debate atleast…

[...] see, I already talked about Lucky Star being licensed. For those of you silly enough to take me seriously, I was annoyed that it happened on a weekend [...]
