“Serge the Concierge” spotlights Hello, Please! Very Helpful Super Kawaii Characters from Japan, a book which tries to narrow down “kawaii culture” a bit and figure out where the heck it came from in the first damn place.
I think I just want it for Toilet Paper-chan.

Oh YES! A few years ago, my daughter was crazy for the San-X characters, which are sort of like Hello Kitty’s neurotic cousins. Somewhere she found a quiz–Which San-X character are you? I was the guy with a box of Kleenex for a head. Very disappointing, but better than Kogepan, I guess.
