Follow-up to the earlier article: the boy who was buried in the sand head-first by his friends who were insipred by Naruto, Codey Porter, has died.

The good news is that it looks like no particular backlash against Naruto is in the works; even the Seattle PI’s article notes that accidents like this have happened in the past, such as when kids would jump off a roof while wearing a towel as a cape and playing Superman.

I guess that means we can go back to worrying about Death Note now…

  1. Kim Metzger Says:

Actually, I’m not sure any death of a kid dying after trying to fly while playing Superman has ever happened. There was one such incident reported in 1978 or 1979 after the first Christopher Reeve movie was released, but it was later determined the boy was not trying to fly, he was waving from a window to his mother who had just gotten home and leaned too far out.

I think this may have been an urban legend that got a lot of ground from the anti-comic book forces of the 1940s and 1950s.
