Spice and Wolf: The Cafe

AkibaBlog reports that Toranoana’s Akiba location will be hosting a Spice and Wolf cafe event to celebrate the series’ first DVD release. The food will include an apple tart and ice cream, grape juice, and…yeah, no clue what that other thing is. Nor do I recognize a date, though the first DVD is coming out April 2nd, so presumably that’s it.

Would so be there if I could!

It’s too bad we don’t have cafe’s like this in the States because I’d totally go to a Spice and Wolf event! I really doubt that the anime fan base in the US could support a cafe like this, especially in our current economic climate, which is really too bad because it sure looks like fun.

@Wink: It’s not that there aren’t enough anime fans willing to pay for a cafe event– just look at the maid cafes and host clubs at anime cons, which often sell out of food and spaces!

No, the problem for American anime fans is that our country is too big, basically. Most people in Japan, at least those in Honshuu, could reasonably get to Akiba for a weekend. But anime fans are spread too wide in the US for there to be any one city to be reasonably accessible for events like this.

Instead, we have LA, San Francisco, and New York all reaching out significantly to anime fans, but that still only tends to score west coast folks and New Englanders for anything that isn’t a huge, full-blown con.

It’s all very tricky, really. Teleportation ftw!
