BVU: “Uh, Did We F@#$ Up?”
Dated: 19 Mar 2008
A new press release from Bandai Visual USA has announced that they’re delaying the releases of sola, True Tears, and Shigofumi– they want to reconsider their packaging strategy.
Having reviewed the current market conditions and expectations, Bandai Visual co., ltd. and Bandai Visual USA Inc. are now reconsidering the overall release strategy of packaged
animation media in the United States and in the global marketplace.
I wonder if that means they figured out that anime fans don’t like a release strategy that includes a single episode on a $39.99 disc? ‘Bout time!

That would be nice if they finally woke up and realized that a fan can buy 1/2 a season of FMA (4 or 5 discs worth) for the same price as BVU is charging for one disc. Heck you can buy an entire season of a US TV show like Heroes for that price. It’s no wonder so many people turn to fan-subs.

I haven’t bought a DVD since 2000. 25-30 bucks for a 4 episode DVD just isn’t worth it for something I can get for free. I’d rather put my money towards manga imports and such.

Hopefully prices will be addressed. I love to be able to watch Gunbuster 2 someday.

Another thing, Wink. The US economy is nose-diving big time. Most people are not going to have $40-$50 to waste on a single disc.

@ Aya Reiko: I couldn’t agree with you more!
