No More American Anime Awards?
So, I didn’t have time to really speculate when I posted about it earlier, but given the lack of its mention in the press release and the nearness of the con (the 18th-20th), it looks like the American Anime Awards are not happening at NYCC this year, if at all– and the official website is gutted at best.
Now, I’ll be the first to say that the awards last year were iffy. They seemed to have things nominated from last year, five years ago, fifteen years ago…I think shows released within the last year should be the cutoff. I’d also like it if the nomination process was open to more than just the companies’ various PR departments. But none of that is unimproveable.
Then again, the company that put it together– ADV –kinda has bigger things to worry about right now, I guess.

This is exactly why I was so harsh on the awards last year when I wrote an editorial about it. After the farce that I saw last year I had very little, if any, confidence that they were going to be able to pull it off again making the ‘annual’ awards now nothing but shiny bookends.

I’m really not going to miss the American Anime Awards, but I suppose they do still have time to throw something together for the New York Anime Fest in September if they really want to.

Not only was I upset at the anime awards last year but I hoped it wouldn’t continue the whole thing was a farcew and a boost up to the anime companys in america, oh and how great things that air on TV are. Most of the award winners bored me with a few exceptions. It was boring to watch the whole thing was sloppy. Your right the cutoff should have been 1 year.

The one thing that irked me about last year’s awards was that there was no category for original English language manga. American Manga Awards, with no award for American manga. Yeah.
