Anime on DVD founder Chris Beveridge has announced that Anime on DVD has been sold to Mania Entertainment LLC, who run the entertainment site Mania.com.

What will that mean for the site? Bigger and better things, Beveridge hopes. He says:

With the anime market changing as drastically as it has, I’ve been looking for ways to take this site to something more than it is. AnimeOnDVD is very much a community effort and I have a fantastic staff of volunteers who plug away at all manner of reviews and work within the forums. But at the end of the day, it comes down to what I can do with it. And I want to do a lot more with it which is why I decided to sell the site to the folks at Mania.com who I’ve known for several years now. Working with them, I and the entire staff will be taking this site into their larger platform where we’ll be heading up their anime and manga platform.

In other words, it’s not becoming a different site, it’s just going to be owned by another company, which will presumably offer more resources for moving forward. Which would be nice; for all that AoD has some great content, their actual site functionality is sorta stuck back in the late ’90s, I think.

Best of luck, AoD!
