Oof, Golden Week is always such a slow news week! But there’s still some occasional tidbits of US news: a friend of mine pointed me to this post on 801 Media’s forums, in which mascot 801-chan teases the forumgoers with a new, not-yet-contracted license.
All I will say is that you all asked for it. So you had better buy it. Like seriously, a bunch of people didn’t want to do the book for various reasons and I went out on a limb on this one. (Like, we mentioned it in confidence to a few people and they tried to talk us out of it!!!)
Some of the usual guesses appear: Okane ga Nai (which is a little shota-tastic, but hey, Kitty Media already put out the OVA…though 801 has said previously that they don’t have it), Under Grand Hotel (no one would have to be convinced to do that title– EVERY yaoi publisher wants it).
….And then they start fantasizing that 801 might try to bring over one of the hardcore doujinshi of a popular series (such as Antique Bakery and Gravitation, both of whose creators have created smutty doujins for). As for me, I have no clue. But among all the other things they enjoy, I happen to know that yaoi fans like guessing games and speculation. So, hop to it.

Maybe it’s Slow Step?

I’m betting Under Grand Hotel or some of Tori Maia’s works. Both are heavily requested hardcore titles. Both are always turned down on forums with “we couldn’t do that one”.

@sunflower: I doubt it’s UGH, personally– from what people in the industry tell me, it’s a hotly fought-over title that several of the big BL pubs want, so I don’t think 801-chan would have to convince the company to do it.
Tori Maia, maybe, and I know a handful of people who would really like to see her stuff come over– but it’s a niche within a niche, bigtime, so we’ll see. :)

Which would make it a big risk. It sounds like the biggest risk 801-chan fears is that it wouldn’t sell to enough people.

My money’s on one of those:
Watanabe Asia
Sakurai Shushushu
Inariya Fusanosuke
Dr. Ten
Sadahiko Mika’s works are way too popular (and expensive) for publishers to license.

801-chan says no Viewfinder, no Okane Ga Nai and no DJs. Also, it looks like no Naono Bohra, but she is willing to take a look.
As far as I know, the only Dr. Ten work that can be licensed, is.
DQ has a few Shushushu titles in their backlog, including Vibrator Company, which is the biggie. It’s possible, but I have trouble seeing 801-chan getting excited over a Shu3 title in that case. It *could* be Jungle King, but since companies will almost never allow matertial to be excluded, the omake in the back that shows real, identifiable people from Yaoi-Con and real events that took place would make things VERY complicated.
UGH is ceetainly hardcore and very often requested, Perhaps they are worried it would not sell well outside of the hardcore yaoi fans who go to cons and such?
@Cat, one of Sadahiro’s books is already licensed. (Organic Sons, DQ) With the growth rate DMP’s companies have had, I am pretty sure they can afford spendy licenses if they are worth it.
Uki Ogasawara is certainly hardcore. But, again, DQ already has the plum titles of this mangaka. I cant see figures getting picked up :)
Tori Maia’s Hoshi no Yakata does fit the description of often asked for and hardcore. Still, I would be surprised.
A Watanabe Asia title is possible.
I can’t think of anything else hardcore and often requested. I can think of some that fit one catagory, but not the other.
