FUNimation Snags ‘Mamotte! Lollipop’ (Oh-Lolly-Lollipop…)

Remember how we were talking about how FUNimation was going to announce some new licenses before Anime Central this year? Well, it looks like it may be true; Active Anime has the press release for a new FUNi license: Save Me! Lollipop (Japanese name Mamotte! Lollipop). I never watched it, so here’s their provided plot summary:
Nina was just another girl who dreamed of finding a prince to defend her honor and protect her from harm. Little did she know, two such boys would fall from the sky! Zero and Ichii are sorcerers from another world taking part in a test. The only way to pass the curious quiz? Find the coveted Crystal Pearl.
It’s going to be tough - other examiness[sic] seek the jewel as well, and some will stop at nothing to capture the prize. Oh, and Nina ate the Crystal Pearl after mistaking it for a piece of candy! Ichii and Zero vow to protect her until the coveted bauble can be reclaimned[sic].
Apparently they sent out this press release with a Whirly Pop lollipop via UPS (ooh, will have to check my UPS box). The typos in the above description may have appeared as some journalist hurriedly typed up the release that came in the mail, I suspect.
FUNi’s getting back into the shoujo game?
What, they weren’t burned enough by Kodocha?
Well kodocha was an amazing series but they ran into alot hurdles up to and icluding the first opening theme song., not funis fault the artists were jerks.
FUNi’s always been in the shoujo game– they’ve been holding Ouran Host Club hostage for over a year; Black Blood Brothers and Trinity Blood (arguably) appeal more to females than males; the recently-licensed Ghost Hunt is shoujo horror; the also-recently-licensed Jyu-oh-Sei is shoujo sci-fi…
I stand corrected.
I also forgot that they’re putting out the Wallflower anime as well. Actually… FUNi is probably putting out the most shoujo these days. My bad.
Scott, I believe it’s ADV that is releasing The Wallflower.
Regarding Mamotte, I didn’t particularly care for the series when it came out two years ago. I found it interesting that FUNi has mobile rights to the series - I wonder if they’ll actually act upon that.
I would’ve prefered Shugo Chara! or Sugar Sugar Rune, but more licensed mahou shoujo is always a good thing.
@Ojamajo: I’m not especially into mahou shoujo, but I second Shugo Chara!. Yum ♥
