Least Surprising News Du Jour: FUNi Snags ‘Gunslinger Girl Il Teatrino’

Okay, they really gave it away too easily with the picture on their website, which AoD picked up on instantly….but I just got the official press release: FUNimation has acquired the rights to the sequel to Gunslinger Girl, Gunslinger Girl Il Teatrino.

The most interesting tidbit in the release? “FUNimation Entertainment will release all 13 episodes of Gunslinger Girl Il Teatrino in one complete DVD release in 2009.” So, you have to wait until next year, but at least you’ll get it all at once.

So far the announcements have had a nice, well-rounded quality about them: a traditional shoujo series (Save Me! Lollipop), a shounen comedy (KenIchi: The Strongest Disciple), and now a seinen show. The press release says they’ll have another announcement tomorrow, but this time there aren’t any hints on the front page of the site– any speculation?

No mecha shows yet (though it seems to me that Funimation doesn’t license those much). I’d love it if it was Idolmaster Xenoglossia, though.

Umm. I suppose they could pick up something like Shakugan no Shana II since Geneon is basically gone now (though I would hope that they would rescue the first series along with it).

We’ve heard some noises about possible Geneon rescues by Funimaiton, though I’m not sure if they’d announce those here.

Picking up something like Baccano isn’t out of the question either, I guess, though if they’re aiming for a variety of different genres, it’s pretty similar to GSG to me.

*snap!* Oh, I’d die if it were Blue Drop too.

OK, I think I should stop before I list every unlicensed anime series out there…

@Josh: Funny you should mention Geneon…see my next post :)

At least it will all be in a collection. I can wait until next year for more Triela. :)

There appears to be a hint now! Looks like some sort of mecha show…but which one?
