Edit: comic shop owner Adam Stephanides left a comment on this entry noting that he received copies of Gunslinger Girl v6 a few weeks ago, which certainly seems to negate the statement.
Reader c-non dropped me this URL, in which someone who c-non tells me is Chris Johnston, former senior editor of Newtype USA (owned, of course, by ADV), who says the following on ADV Manga:
I don’t think there’s been any announcement of the sort, but ADV Manga’s been shut down for months now even though they never removed the solicitations for 2008. Your best bet is to rally around someone else picking up the license.
Now, I haven’t been able to even confirm that IS Johnston (the board requires moderator-approved registration), and of course he isn’t employed by ADV anymore, he left Newtype USA back in late November ‘07 to work for Adult Swim, so his information may not be current– especially since ADV just told me that ADV Manga is still going.
So, take it with a jar of salt, but there’s your heads up.

Ah, sorry about not backing it up a bit more (forgot NeoGAF requires registration nowadays). His profile links to http://homepage.mac.com/chris_johnston/ Pretty sure it’s him. But yeah, as far as his knowledge of current ADV internal status, your guess is as good as mine.

Gunslinger girl vol 6 was released back in Dec 07 (according to amazon.com which can be a little off on dates of course) but that still means no 2008 manga releases from ADV as far as I can tell

Just for the record, I’m not a comic shop owner, just a comic reader.
