The Tortoise and the Bandai (Entertainment)

Bandai Entertainment is getting even trickier on us. Warning: some of the destinations of the following links may eventually be altered to rickroll you. It’s not my fault!

I got a user tip that pointed me to this AnimeonDVD thread, which linked to the above image, which originally featured this rickroll link (though it wasn’t originally a rickroll) and now this image.

Now, the picture features references to two shows, at least: School Days (nice tortoise => nice boat) and Gunbuster 2 (”hard work and guts”). There’s also an 8.jpg which references the Starshine Project, which doesn’t appear to be anything specifically anime, just space in general– definitely tying into Gunbuster 2.

Now, this is really interesting since Gunbuster and Gunbuster vs Diebuster are both licensed by Bandai Visual, which is– let’s all say it together! –a separate company. If Bandai Entertainment gets Gunbuster 2, well, let’s just say it’ll be interesting.

And of course, no sneaky Bandai Entertainment update would be complete without checking the homepage– which is back to “high traffic mode” –for hidden messages. Hit the jump for those. But for a quick excerpt:

“This will be pretty major news, don’t you think?” “Nor can it ever happen again.” Yowza.

!– Recovery efforts are underway on various vessels as an unexpected stellar blast rocked every quadrant in the sector earlier yesterday. –
!– Its effects are still having unknown impacts. –
!– We will bring you live, up-to-date news as soon as our communications system is re-established with the rest of our network. –
!– What… what was that… –
!– Is anyone hurt? –
!– All personnel are advised to evacuate –
!– Rescue transports are on their way now –
!– Unexpected reaction in the core has caused catastrophic cascading chain reaction sequence to occur. –
!– Repeat. All personnel to evacuate. The core has been ignited, sustained reactions have been detected. –
!– Sir! Sensors are tracking more targets than we first expected! –
!– This will be pretty major news, don’t you think? –
!– Nor can it ever happen again –
!– Continuing to scan unknown fleet, their intentions are still unclear! –
!– Maintain shields at full! –
!– Sir! We need more energy to the Secret Weapons Array! This isn’t enough power for inbounds! –
!– Divert any remaining non-essential energy to weapons! –
!– Life support at 15% sir, we can’t maintain this much longer –
!– Secret Weapons Array now charging to 600% –
!– Sir, we’re near the maximum theoretical capacity of the array, no one has ever discharged a weapon at this yield burst before –
!– We need those reinforcements! –
!– Capital Ship is less than 48 hours out now –
!– They will be entering radio blackout soon –
!– Sir! Comm Officer requests early leave for his crew so they may rest and recuperate in the few hours we have left! –
!– Understood. Communications bay, stand down for the next 15 hours. –
!– Make your final preparations and put everything in order. –

    Nice Tortoise…

That’s really fucking funny. This sounds very familiar to the ASOS Brigade campaign. Kudos to whoever is at Bandai with the great sense of humor.

  2. Kurono-K Says:

    PLEASE BANDAI

    PLEASE

  3. Josh Says:

I like how they have THREE countdowns now.

And what do you think of this?

“Something’s old, something’s new, some not finished, our announcements too! The last one depends on the others.”

Um, is there a set of series where 1) one has already been licensed (and which Bandai can pick up), 2) has a part which is unlicensed, and 3) has a part which is not finished, but is a sequel of the first two? lol

That school days thing, though, almost made me think they’re going to license that. I’d have a heart attack if they did, but I somehow doubt it.

  4. DiGiKerot Says:

Ummm, you do know that Gunbuster 2 has actually already been released R1 side by Bandai Visual? They released it even before their release of the original Gunbuster.

  5. Flamehaze Says:

I’m hardcore hoping that they someone licenses School Days because I’m all up for buying that.

  6. Kuri Says:

They’ve definately got me curious, that’s for sure. I’ve got my fingers crossed for a ‘merge’ with what’s left of Geneon, in light of their apparent search for new a distributor, and acquistion of their titles. Their HTML code talk today of picking up the spacepods left by aliens and discovering what’s inside them all, is my far stretch connection ;)
