Bandai Visual USA Shows Signs of Death
Dated: 23 May 2008

Well, well. Those who foresaw a merger in Bandai Entertainment’s announcements and Gunbuster hints appear to be right: Anime on DVD reports from their forums that Bandai Visual USA is being absorbed into Bandai Entertainment Inc. Here is the thread, which links to two press releases, one of which 404s; here is the actual link to that.
And lo, the fans said: You mean we might be able to AFFORD Gunbuster 2 now?
Presumably all the details will be announced at BEI’s Faime panel– oh, and BEI’s counter is still going.

While it is too bad that a company has to tank, people’s jobs, etc., I’m glad that the good Bandai will be taking their stuff over.

Wonder if this means True Tears and Shigofumi will be coming out at reasonable and competitive prices?

I think this is the best news i’ve heard since Bandai acquired Gurren…
Bandai, i love you these days.

Here’s the worst case scenario: Bandai Entertainment lets go of its fun, unusual marketing people to replace them with Bandai Visual’s marketing folks (the ones who decided that yes, you can afford to spend $30-40 for two episodes per DVD) and replaces Bandai Visual’s licenses with a reissue of Haruhi.

I doubt that will be the case, Haesslich, since Bandai Visual only had 2 employees still working in its offices at the time of the merger.
