Akon08: Bandai Entertainment…And Stuff!
So this is going to mostly be the usual Bandai Entertainment panel, hosted by Robert Napton: trailers and release info for Code Geass (first DVD on August 5th), where they mention that there’ll be some Geass fun at Anime Expo this year…Lucky Star (volume 2 due out in July). Ghost Slayers Ayashi, hitting streets on September 2nd, and don’t forget that they have the manga too, which is included in the limited edition. Toward the Terra will reach stores on July 15th in a sub-only release (I don’t think I knew that part). My-Otome Zwei is up next, with a clarification: the OVA is coming out with four episodes on one disc, both for regular edition and limited edition (apparently rumors to the contrary abound).
Moving on to Toki wo Kakeru Shoujo/The Girl Who Leapt Through Time (sorry, I just really like the Japanese name). It’ll hit DVD on November 18th, and of course the theatrical release will begin in June– still no cities other than LA and New York, but it’s only a matter of time. We’ve also been told to hit up the ImaginAsian panel tomorrow, because they’ll talk about TokiKake…at first that got me really excited but then I remembered that the theatrical release so far is at the ImaginAsian Center and ImaginAsian Theater, so maybe it’s not a big deal.
Gundam Seed Destiny TV movies, first volume street date June 17th (but they have it here early). Agent AIKa is also out early in the dealer room, but due out June 3rd. Rocket Girls, also a sub-only release, due out later in the summer, but no specific date– all eps on one disc. Gundam 00 is up next, with no specific information but they still hope to arrange for the show to be broadcast– there should be a lot more info available come Anime Expo.
And of course, Gurren Lagann, which will have the sub-only release July/August/September and the dubbed version will begin to air on Sci-Fi Channel starting July 28th.
Next up is Ghost in the Shell 2 : Innocence, freshly re-dubbed, coming out on DVD (regular and special editions) as well as Blu-Ray. (Note to self: ask if the BD version will come with swag like the special edition.)
Oh, I lied, last would be Sword of the Stranger, which they announced at Fanime of course. Catching a trailer of it now…maybe. Mm, technical difficulties.
And the new announcement is…more technical difficulties…in the meantime I asked my Ghost in the Shell blu-ray question, and he’s not sure yet if the BD version will come with bonus swag. The Code Geass special edition DVDs will include the original Japanese sound episodes and there will be some kind of translation of them for listeners who don’t speak Japanese.
Question on Gundam 00, which they’re still lining up in terms of hi-def, since GitS is their first blu-ray title.
Subtitle release on the original Mobile Suit Gundam? Lots of talk about it, they’d like to, but nothing specific yet.
Next question is Bandai Visual USA’s future, which Napton doesn’t have anything new he can say about it, the same stuff that was in the press release is all they can say. BVU will fold into Bandai Entertainment, but no details on series or on people.
Right, back to the announcement…after the trailer for Sword of the Stranger. Napton is such a tease!
We’re running out of time now, so hopefully we’ll hurry this up a bit…shame we won’t have more Q&A though. Stranger will also hit the ImaginAsian theaters in a theatrical release, which they hope to give a wider release as well.
But now! The announcement! I hope! It’s…the Tamagotchi movie. No, seriously! It’s the movie they made based on the Tamagotchi electronic pets a while back. It looks wacky and cute and CRAZY. I asked if they’ll be doing a theatrical release of it as well, but not sure…more information “coming soon.” Last question went to me and I asked if they’ll be doing anything with Shoko-tan at Anime Expo, sinc she does the Gurren Lagann theme– “no comment.” But there’ll be a lot of Gurren stuff at AX. Sweet deal.
The end!

What does that mean: “Rocket Girls … due out … all eps on one disc”? Are they going to use Xvid? Stop scaring me.

Hooray for dancing around the issues. I love it when they do that. You’ve been doing a ton of A-Kon coverage, and we’ve still got two more days to go. Hope you can keep up the pace. =)

Author: They mean one set. It’s coming out in a 13 (or whatever) episode set, likely spread across 3, or maybr 4 discs. It won’t be on one disc of course.

Am I the only one who feels like Bandai just, like, rickrolled the entire industry?
I mean, all that buildup for the TAMAGOTCHI MOVIE? I’m stunned they’re even bringing it over, the Tamagotchi franchise is dead in the States. Who are they marketing it to?

Haha, it looked like the Animal Crossing movie at first so I was a little happy..
And why does it take so long for The Girl who Leapt Through Time to come out and not a lot for Stranger..

Well I don’t know about the rest of you, but over at our Tamagotchi community, we’ve been waiting anxiously for a dub of the Tamagotchi movie.
It came out back in December, and nobody’s subbed the thing yet (not to mention the anime either).

I’m looking forward to The Girl who Leapt Through Time; I’ve really been meaning to see that.
I don’t really know anything about Tamagotchi, but it seems interesting I suppose. Now if the Animal Crossing movie was released, that would be awesome. I love that movie.
