Quickie: PiQ Closure Confirmed by Freelancers

So, turns out that the reason for those PiQ shutdown rumors is that some freelancers have reported getting notice that the magazine’s final issue will hit stands in July. Over at CWR Johanna explains why she originally deleted her post on the matter, but has restored it, seeing as how news is spreading ’round the ‘net anyway.

So now my question remains: will ADV be at Anime Next, and if so, what the heck does one say to a company in the midst of so many failures? And yes, several people have suggested that I hunt ADV reps down like dogs and somehow (magically?) force them to explain what’s going on, but frankly, that’s just not plausible– and odds are that what’s going on is simply that they’re scrambling to put together enough money to keep running. If there’s anything more specific going on (like being acquired or partnering up or something), I’m going to call it unlikely that they’ll leak it to me early.

That said, I’ll do my best to learn what I can…if they show.

Well, it seems like Kanon 5 shipped out fine a couple of weeks ago (even if it’s already on backorder at Right Stuf), so ADV seems at the very least healthy enough to keep shipping out DVDs.

I have noticed an increase in thinpack box set releases and re-releases recently, though.

Well, here’s hoping I get volume 6 of Kanon before they file chapter 11…ADV seemed like a classic example of “a rising tide lifts all ships” during the boom, and now that there’s a downturn we’re seeing just how inept their management really is…

Well, hopefully what ADV does is basically license series which they’re pretty sure will sell well and sell them, and not bother with anything else until they get back on their seat. Series like Devil May Cry and Kanon do seem to sell well, so they shouldn’t go under because of that. Of course, unless they don’t know how to manage money generally, which unfortunately the PiQ thing may suggest.

i’m just gonna assume ADV is fuxxorz. I see them finishing what they have started, kanon, nhk, whatever else, but i dont see them licensing anything new.
