‘The Hills’ Are Alive With Eroge Adaptations

Moon Phase’s diary has updated with another eroge to anime adaptation announcement: Akane-iro ni Somaru Saka (hard to translate, since “akane-iro” would be “madder red,” so something to the effect of “The Hills Dyed Madly Red,” perhaps? Or even just “The Hills Dyed Mad”?) will be getting animated.

There’s already some staff in place, starting with director Keitarou Motonaga, who helmed Amaenaideyo!!, LoveDol, Princess Princess, and School Days. The script will be penned by another School Days alum: Makoto Uezu, while Hiroyama Madoka (Yumeria, LoveDol) will do character design. Finally, the animation director will be Shoujo Hara, who also worked on Sasami: Mahou Shoujo Club and the eX-Driver OVA. The studio behind the production is TNK.

Unfortunately, I can’t tell you anything about the plot beyond it being a cruel love story about a pair of siblings living under the same roof.

Actually, the “madder” refers to the plant, so “akaneiro” is basically a dark shade of red (it’s often used to describe the color of the evening sky). :D I suppose the hill in question is full of red flowers or something.

  2. A Day Without Me Says:

I just got this vision of Princess Princess crossed with School Days… I think it would’ve been a definite improvement for both.

Well, hey, as long as this thing isn’t harem-style (fat chance), maybe I’ll watch.

So it’ll be sorta like Myself;Yourself, but with even more drama and angst?

    Interesting…

    [...] yesterday’s announcement of Akane-iro ni Somaru Saka’s eroge-to-anime adaptation excited you, AnimeSuki’er [...]

Title would be more accurately translated “The Hills Dyed Rose Madder” or less literally “The Red Dyed Hills”.

    – It invokes the image of a sunset turning the hills a crimson red.

Akane (madder) is a kind of flower whose root is used to make a red dye called rose madder (akane-iro).

The story itself is a typical high school harem eroge involving the main protagonist (Junichi) and at least 3 female interests, including Minato, his younger sister whom he clearly has feelings for (siscon).
The main heroine, Yuuhi, is Jun’s fiancĂ©e. Their engagement was arranged by their parents without their consent but the catch is that if the two of them don’t become closer after living together for one month the marriage will be called off.
