Suit Up, Fansubbers: Japan’s Lookin’ At You

Another report from Sankaku Complex: Japan’s newest Intellectual Property Strategic Program specifically mentions both anime and overseas piracy, which probably refers to both the pirated DVD type and the P2P downloading type, though whether YouTube-type sharing is included isn’t clear.

There doesn’t seem to be a lot by way of specifics, but it’s probably worth noting that American licensors aren’t the only people a fansubber has to worry about…

    /sigh

well not much I can do about anything, really.

This is depressing.. how the heck are fans going to get their anime fix now. It’s hard to learn a new langauge.. so what do they expect us to do. Wait for the crappy American dubs?

Considering they’re sketchy about the details, they either have nothing up their sleeves really and are just trying to put the scare on the fansubbers… or they WANT us to think that, and then lay the smackdown suddenly when it’s least expected…
Either way, I find myself being too distracted by your Toshokan Sensou banner to figure out the repercussions

AnimeMiz- Buy the dvd’s and watch it with subtitles since the vast majority of dvd’s are bilingual? Honestly, there’s probably 10 times as many series that’ve been released subonly then dubonly.

Infact, subonly seems to be makinga comeback after being a regular thing in the 90’s, and taking a break with the DVD boom. Now, it’s pretty normal to see Bandai, RightStuf and Media Blasters pump out series on a cheaper price subonly. Which is good for them [cheaper to produce] and good for us [shows we wouldn't get otherwise, cheaper price :)]
