Expo Scheduling: ZOMG EVA MOVIE!

Yes, an updated schedule is online for this year’s Anime Expo event, and damn, I’m gonna be busyyyyy…(how could they schedule Bandai Entertainment and ADV at the same time? HOW COULD YOU, EXPO?!)

But the new schedule, interestingly enough, contains a tidbit: there’ll be a screening of Evangelion 1.0: You Are (Not) Alone on Saturday at 10pm. And then there’s another surprising addition to the list of panelists– Production I.G.

In addition, I’ll be interviewing FUNimation’s CEO Gen Fukunaga after his keynote on Friday, so if you have any questions for him, by all means– ask away and I’ll do what I can to get an answer!

So, here is the list of companies and people that will be at the con that I can try to hunt down to get your questions answered:

- ADV
- Aniplex
- Aurora/Deux/LuvLuv
- Bandai Entertainment Inc.
- Broccoli International USA
- CMX
- Dark Horse
- Digital Manga Publishing/Juné/801 Media
- FUNimation
- Geneon Japan? (There’s a “GENEON PREMIERS” panel, but no description yet)
- GO! Comi
- ImaginAsian
- Kadokawa Pictures USA
- Nozomi Entertainment/Right Stuf
- Production I.G
- TOKYOPOP
- VIZ

And yes, I’m doing my damnedest to get me or a companion to every single panel.

The list of guests (including those who are industry guests instead of convention Guest of Honor guests) is pretty long, so I’m going to put it under a cut. Unfortunately I’m not going to be able to go to the press junket on Wednesday night, but I can still request to do interviews– it’s just a matter of whether they’ll have a spare moment or not!

- Akemi Takada
- David Hayter
- Toshihiko Seki
- Jyukai

- Hideyuki Kikuchi

Geez! That’s a lot of people. If you only go to one con a year, this would be the one to go to. It basically can take the place of all the cons in a year because of the number of companies and guests coming. You don’t really need to go to any other ones.

The only problem I see is that it might be a bit crowded. I’ve never been to Anime Expo so I hope they have it in a large facility.

@Scott: This year they’re having it at the LA Convention Center, the same place they have E3, so it should be big enough…I hope, considering that there are many reasons why this is NOT a great location…

  3. Scott Says:

Maybe the Eva movie is going to be licensed?

That would be some pretty big news.

  4. Niko Says:

Wow. You’re going to be really busy.

  5. Sigue Says:

    I was so close…

  6. Quarkboy Says:

Ask Gen what his plans are for the remnants of ADV.

  7. Eloy Says:

damn that looks to be a busy schedule. good luck

Corner ADV and find out what in the righteous hell their deal is. It’s time to put the “are or aren’t they” rumors to bed.

Scheduling them back to back with BEI may be interesting however…

  10. CJ Says:

    All I gotta say is, Funimation’d better be giving us more info on GSG2, Soukou no Strain and D.Gray-man’s releases. GET ON IT, FUNI >_>;;;

    Also anticipating ADV news. Stop screwing up our manga releases dangit~ ToT;

  11. IcyStorm Says:

You seem like you’ll be busy. I’m planning to only attend the Production I.G., FUNimation and the Bandai Entertainment for industry-related panels. Just make sure you take the time to enjoy some of the con, yes?

  12. Zeouterlimits Says:

Hope AnimeAlmanac is right, it’s about time for it to be licensed, or at the very least I strongly desire that it be licensed.

  13. CalAggie Says:

Geez, it does look like a busy weekend but don’t get too exhausted - remember to stay hydrated!

I’m planning to attend a number of industry panels but I’m not going to try liveblogging them (aside from Twitter) because I’m cheap and don’t want to pay for wifi. I think I’ll pick ADV over Bandai and Broccoli over Funimation (still debating that one).

A note about the Eva movie: it is ALSO being screened Thursday at 11:30 AM and Friday at 12:30 PM, but Saturday night seems to be the only time I can see it. Of course that takes place near the end of Masquerade but I’m more interested in watching a movie then than being in a large crowd with screaming cosplay fans and hit-and-miss skits.

  14. Ragnar Says:

If you could, ask Production IG if they’re planning to release Mamoru Oshii’s movies “Tachiguishi Retsuden” or “The Sky Crawlers” over here.
Also, I didn’t see Del Rey on the list, but I’d like to know if Kara no Kyoukai is just going to be in the Faust anthologies, or if it’s getting its own novels.

  15. CCY Says:

Maybe I’m a bit behind the times, but …

    Dear VIZ,
    Honey & Clover anime. Where?!

    Thanks. ^^

  16. sleepinghour Says:

I’d be grateful if you could ask Dark Horse whether they have any plans to license the Blade of the Immortal anime or novel. (Both the anime and novel will be released in July in Japan.)

    Thanks!

    Update

I just heard FUNimation is going to be carrying Hellsing OVA. So new questions -

    1) Release date?

    2) Will the same dub/English voice cast be used?

    3) Any other major changes happening?
