At least, that’s the word on Oricon: Mizuki Kawashita, creator of the popular romantic comedy Ichigo 100%, is going to develop a manga based on the play Sonezaki Shinjuu (aka The Love Suicides at Sonezaki).

The play, written by Chikamatsu and first performed in the year 1703, is the tragic tale of a courtesan and a clerk who fall in love and kill themselves because he can’t afford to marry her.

Bit of a leap, eh? The new manga will run in Jump Square…looks like July? The headline also says it’s being made into a “cute” manga. Cute suicide? Yeah, I dunno either.

I would read it, if only for the art.

I wonder how long the manga is going to be. Doesn’t seem like a topic you can draw out for very long.

I think Kawashita should make a continuation for Inchigo 100%.. well it’s absolutely very good but there are lot of things left hanging.. the ending was kund of twist but they should at least give a decent closure for other characters as well
