At least, that’s the word on Oricon: Mizuki Kawashita, creator of the popular romantic comedy Ichigo 100%, is going to develop a manga based on the play Sonezaki Shinjuu (aka The Love Suicides at Sonezaki).

The play, written by Chikamatsu and first performed in the year 1703, is the tragic tale of a courtesan and a clerk who fall in love and kill themselves because he can’t afford to marry her.

Bit of a leap, eh? The new manga will run in Jump Square…looks like July? The headline also says it’s being made into a “cute” manga. Cute suicide? Yeah, I dunno either.

This worries me =/ It doesn’t look like it’s going to be a good adaptation at all =(

I would read it, if only for the art.

But the idea itself … DAAAAMN.

I wonder how long the manga is going to be. Doesn’t seem like a topic you can draw out for very long.
