Moon Phase has two more pieces of new anime news (but Black Lagoon is one we– or at least I –have been waiting for since 2006, so it got its own post). Still, we shouldn’t diminish either of these: Umineko no Naku Koro ni (the newest sequel to horror series Higurashi, natch) and the slightly pervy middle-school comedy Kyou no Go no Ni (Today in Class 5-2), is getting some kind of new animation this fall– it’s not clear yet if it’ll be an OVA or a TV series.

If you haven’t heard of Kyou no Go no Ni yet, you should really consider checking it out. It’s based on a manga by Koharu Sakuraba, the creator of Minamike, and since the first anime is an OVA he was able to get away with a lot more sex humor than Minamike’s TV series had. Kyou no Go no Ni isn’t a gag manga, but its OVA format was similar to Azumanga Daioh’s TV format, i.e. the episodes were generally split into short bits, since Kyou’s chapters are also fairly short. The whole series is actually only one volume; the original OVA was four episodes.

So there you go: two more series to get excited about!

That’s some pretty good news about the Today in 5-2 sequel. I was just thinking about how much more prepubescent sex comedy I need in my life. It’s been a while since I last saw a fifth graded dripping with milk all over her body.

    (-_-)…

In all seriousness, though, I was recommended to watch the first series by a friend because he thought that I would like it because I liked Ichigo Marshmallow. Well, I like sex comedies, and I like cute little girls, but 5-2 was just… wrong. Very wrong. I now seriously have to question my friend’s real reason for liking this show.

But at least the OP was good.

    Kyou no Go no Ni!!!!!!111

I hope they include the Chika-Ryota-Kazumi “love triangle” stories they left out of the original OVA.

Umineko is not a sequel to higurashi unfortunatly, more of a “spiritual” successor, that being said its still very mystery like but it cuts out alot of horror aspect, there is hints I guess in the game though that umi neko and higurashi have some connections.

Does this mean more teardrop mouths? I support that.

@Scott: Always with the being judgmental! ;) Kyou no Go no Ni is another one of those shows people look and say “OMG! KIDS! SEX TALK! WTF!” and assume it’s sheer pedophilia. And those people obviously forget what it’s like to be eleven years old– anyone who thinks you have to be mid- or post-puberty to be curious about sex / the opposite sex is an idiot.

Not to say that there aren’t pedos who enjoy it, I’m sure there are. But like Kodomo no Jikan, there’s a lot of legitimate fun there that closed-minded people miss out on because of society’s stupid hangups.

  6. Scott Says:

@gia Kodomo no Jikan actually had a good message about neglect and the need to find love in all the wrong places. Class 5-2 is just pure pedo-juice. Trust me, I’m the one who’s always saying, “Don’t be so judgmental when it comes to anime about kids doing adult things,” but I honestly can’t justify any good reason to watch that series.

  7. gia Says:

@Scott: So…it’s okay for a show to have kids doing adult things as long as it has a serious message, but if it’s just for humorous purposes, it’s not?

Here’s my good reason: the show’s hilarious! Again, it might not be so funny to you, but that doesn’t mean anyone else who enjoys it is probably a pedo. ;)

  8. Kougeru Says:

I have to agree with gia, Kyou No Go Ni is hilarious, and it’s realistic…a lot of misunderstandings because things LOOK sexual happen often irl, and teh anime did it well. I also liked the Chika+Ryouta childhood friend thing going on. But who doesn’t like childhood friend romance? The opening song is one of my favorite anime songs…Mikako Takahashi+Mamiko Noto+Mai Kadowaki=win
