The legendary Rob Bricken has spotted a few rumors relating to the potential live-action Cowboy Bebop movie, some mundane (it may be fast-tracked for a 2010 release) and some…well.

It seems Keanu Reeves is a name being floated to play Spike. Now, Rob doesn’t think it’s such a bad thing, especially since Reeves’ style of acting-by-not-acting isn’t all that out of line for Spike’s own underplayed persona…but mainly, I just think it’d be tough for Keanu Reeves to do the hair. Spike has that cool mane of hair that poofs out but isn’t an afro, and I can’t imagine Keanu pulling off. See the picture above.

    Keanu as Spike?

    Whoa.

  2. Niko Says:

I don’t know. Keanu might be able to pull it off. It’s hard trying to think of who should play Spike since no obvious names come to mind.

Until all these so-called live-action anime adaptations actually start filming, it’s best to just assume they don’t exist and won’t actually be made. That said, Keanu Reeves: Action Hero = AUTOMATIC WATCH on my part. The same is true for Nicolas Cage: Action Hero.

Still, something tells me that if the live-action DBZ movie fails to become a smash hit, then all the remaining anime film adaptations in development are going to vanish pretty fast. After all, the only super mega big budget movie that tanked at the box office this summer (even though I thought it was great) was Speed Racer.

As long as they don’t cast Jack Black as Spike and Lindsay Lohan as Faye … I’m cool.

Keanu will probably hurt himself like he did during the Matrix filming lol. I’ll just wait until a real cast is listed before whining though.

Well it they have a big enough budget to get Keanu Reeves, it can’t be that terribly produced

I think it would be the worst mistake ever to cast Keanu Reeves as Spike. True, he may have the looks, but he doesn’t have the acting chops or the personality. Not to mention the fact that he’s too old to play Spike.

I think a better Spike might be Adrien Grenier (Entourage, Drive Me Crazy). Or better yet, a Japanese actor like Shin Koyamada (The Last Samurai). Because nothing would drag this movie through the mud faster than having the wrong person play Spike.

And Lindsay Lohan as Faye…. that is the sickest joke I have ever heard. Let us never speak of it again.
