Otakon08: FUNimation
Liveblogging by phone once again! Adam Sheehan is up front and Johnathan”Caveman” Brands preside.
I think there’ll be no major announcements from the sound of it, but we’ll move along anyway.
Opening mostly with Sheehan’s usual take on the industry at the moment (i.e. the DON’T PANIC! speech), which I’ve written up before.
Blah blah YouTube, new eps every week, lots of series (Mushishi), mobile anime. Text “go funimation” to 22646 for more info on mobile stuff.
Shuffle, v6, limited edition w/box, pinup, and GOD panties (I think that’s not new).
Tsusbasa season 2 is coming out August 19th with a new starter set and there are Mokona beach balls available at the booth. There’s also some kind of find Mokona contest in the works.
DBZ blah blah…season six, marathon play is awesme…DBZ GT season one is due November 11th.
Black Lagoon Second Barrage on August 19th and s1 will be reprinted. I want to lick the box. Delicious Revy, must eat.
One Piece s1 eps 14-26 on September 23, more exclusive new cover art from Toei. Also has some commentaries.
Hellsing Ultimate! Volumes 1-4 and there are limited editions too. September 23 for all that, and they’re marathoning it tomorrow night. The LEs have swag like an Alucard relief bust and an art and sketchbook.
Ghost Hunt! Fiiiiinally I know I’m not alone in waiting for this. Eps 1-13, probably $49.98ish, on Oct. 7th. Comes with manga pages from Del Rey and character case files.
Jyu-Oh-Sei, not a favorite of mine, but the entire series (11 eps) is coming Oct. 7th, with US staff commentary…but maybe just on ep6? Weird. No price given.
Claymore v1 of 6 on Oct 14th, and it’ll have a starter set too– comes with a 24 page book with interviews and character profiles. Stephanie Young and Todd Haberkorn are the main voices (presumably Claire and Raki).
Host Club part 1 on 10/28 and 1/06 for part two, $59.98 each, with actors’ commentary, manga pages, and outtakes.
Aaaaand Darker than Black coming November 25th. It will have a starter set but no other details yet.
Blu-Ray..Afro Samurai on 8/26, DBZ double feature 9/16, Robotech 9/2, and Vexille 11/4.
New stuff! Dates for Geneon which we already have so I won’t rush to get ‘em. Ditto October…Afro Samurai sequel, Lucy Liu, etc, all of the comic-con announcements, but a new trailer!
Now for q&a but only a few minutes so I’ll get those Nanoha and D.Gray-Man dates later…wait,no, they say they’re not announcing yet, sorry.
They will expand the mobile stuff if what they’re doing now works well. They hope to get the new DBZ short in the works…no word on Tsubasa ova but there’s a good feeling about it. D.Gray-Man on tv? Always a chance, also mentions Claymore.
Nanoha is one of the Geneon titles of course, no info yet. V1-5 of Kanon again? Yes, and a box set. Story of Saiunkoku– 3 season sets, the first has the first 3 volumes. Last question…One Piece back on tv? It’s between Toei and Cartoon Network so don’t know.

I got booted from Funi cause I was too far back in line (I should have applied for a press pass, even if I probably wouldn’t have gotten one).
I did get in for Media Blasters. I was the big dude next to MB’s guy in the back row, if you even looked back there.
I shall learn my lesson from this and stake out in line EARLY for the other industry panels.
