Time for Yaoi Press. Did I mislabel the last post sdcc? Oops.
Yamila Abraham’s in charge, of course, and the Japanator guys have abandoned me for this one, of course (though Scott from Anime Almanac is braving the female hordes). Let’s see what YP has to say!
This is their first Otakon panel though they’ve attended for four years. M.A. Sambre of Dark Prince will be a guest at Yaoi Con (this year or next? Not totally sure.)
Winter Demon v4 is coming in October.
This is one of the zanier panels– zanier yaoi panels, even– i’ve been to this year. Some girl just sneezed to a roomful of bles yous. They’re also very cheery.
I just got handed a Dany&Dany art book…should I pass it around or do I get to to keep it? Hmm.
To break in to Yaoi Press, the best way is to submit short stories to the Yaoi series. Dark Prince v3 comes out in September.

New announcement: Le peruggine’s new (untitled) project: an ancient Rome-set bl. Gay Romans aren’t exactly a stretch, but it could be fun. It’ll come out…sometime.
There’s the yaoi parasols, and other products– messenger bags, one says guys who touch this bag will turn gay (there’s a yuri/girls version too).
Submissions…they want pinup artists for their upcoming non-con themed artbook, and writers for Happy Yaoi Yum Yum. More details at yaoipress.com.
Q&a, then stuff-throwing…how’s netcomics going? YP has titles up there for online reading and it’s doing well although a couple years behind the print versions. They’re also working on Spanish and Russian versions for download.
What got Yamila into the genre and starting her business? As a teen she was writing slash, and wanted to make a home for it. In ‘97 she saw a copy of Ai no Kusabi, a very popular yaoi anime, and realized there WAS a home for it. .she didn’t start the company until 04. Publishing is a tough business and she needed $500,000 to start up– which wasn’t a lot for publishing.
Submissions– what genres preferred? She wants stuff that is different from Japan’s usual salarymen-or-schoolboys mode. Settings that you haven’t seen before, stuff that stands out. Sci-fi is a hard sell (though Dany&Dany get to do it). Schoolboy stories have to really stand out, like After School Nightmare. It also really does have to be a romance between two guys, not just tweaked to fit YP’s theme.
Yes, it can be a romance between THREE guys. Or more.
Gothic Yaoi 2? Not really a series so probably not but it did do well.
