Unofficial Official Doujinshi, But It’s Not Porn, I Think

I don’t really know how common it is for mangaka to create doujinshi of their own work– I’ve seen it a few times in the yaoi world, especially when the official manga isn’t hardcore (but the doujinshi is).
But AkibaBlog reports that a Strike Witches doujinshi called Strike Witches -African Witch- was just released…and that it was created entirely by official Strike Witches staff (including Fumikane Shimada, the artist who came up with the original “mecha musume” and Strike Witches concepts, and Takaaki Suzuki, who does all of the military research for the show).
In fact, the doujinshi was originally intended to be a bonus booklet for a DVD release, but somewhere along the lines it fell through and became a doujinshi instead.
Interesting, no? Were I a fan of the show I’d be trying to score a copy right now.

The staff for Godannar famously made their own porn doujin with official art and everything just to finance the second season of the show. One of the more extreme cases out there but it’s not unknown.

The moe version of Biggles in Africa? I’m unconvinced. (I was going to say what Demian said - but then he said it first. Godannar doesn’t get much fanart, because the staff catered for everyone in the first place.)

Another interestin thing is that the doujinshi is in both Japanese and English…I’m a huge fan of the show, so I’d loooove a copy…the only thing available for outside-Japan exporting is it for $45 on eBay, though, which makes me orz

There needs to be porn of Strike Witches. That would be hilarious.

@gan-chan:
There’s already tons and tons of it, of course. Even before the summer Comiket.

This reminds me of the ‘official doujinshis’ made by Fumi Yoshinaga for Antique Bakery, dedicated to the FYG fans of the series… ^^;

usagijen: Yeah, Yoshinaga and Maki Murakami are the two BL artists I was thinking of when I wrote this :)
