Everybody Ought to Have a Maid: Follow-Up

Yes, yes, I’m still alive. Some of you may not really be aware that KumoriCon, my local Portland convention, was this past weekend. I volunteered as part of the Maid Squad, and we had an over 50% increase in attendance, so it was buuuuuusy! Then I got back and got handed a bunch of work to do for my current project which you will see the results of in what I hope will be less than eight weeks, hence my quietness.

But of course tons has been going on, so I plan on doing a slew of posts over the weekend. In the meantime, to tide you over, I present to you: A Day in the Life of the Maid Squad. I took a bunch of video on my teensy-tiny digital camera on Monday (the last day of the convention, hurray for holiday weekends) and clipped together the best parts of my misadventures for your amusement. WITNESS as I deliver cupcakes, peace bond weapons, provide directions, and just generally make an ass of myself– a performance in two acts!

For those who want to know more (yes, I’m looking at you, convention-runners who are curious about the concept): as I mentioned before, the Maid Squad is basically just there to help out. We kind of function as the polite, friendly, cheerful interface for the con-goers.

We might provide directions (or even escort someone to their destination if need be), we might bring water to people waiting in the reg line, hold someone’s spot in line while they run to the restroom, or show off items for sale at the charity auction. We may also occasionally pour alcoholic beverages at a sake tasting, and run around doing the “nyan nyan” dance from Macross F in a desperate attempt to keep the people in line for said tasting happy. But we are always happy to be helpful (and of course, we’re all wearing maid or butler outfits).

I’m looking forward to doing it again next year and making it even better! (I have some tricks still up my sleeve, you see.)

So, if you use your digital camera to take video, people won’t realize it. This could be used for good or evil!

You should’ve given someone the camera momentarily so that you could’ve also appeared in the video. Kind of a bummer after you made much hay about being in the maid squad. :(

Actually, you do make a mirror appearance in the first video. ;)

you forgot to mention that you were also required to do the “Fish Flake Dance” a few time. I think we got you and Alex to do that at least once during the charity auction or between that and closing.

also in video 2 the guy talking about grave stones is Mike Stark the Saruracon Con-Chair.
