…By which I of course mean Kaze no Stigma, the Gonzo-animated adaptation of Takahiro Yamato and Hanamaru Nanto’s light novel series (currently being adapted into a manga by Yamato and artist Neko Miyakai). They’ll start releasing the show in ‘09; for those who haven’t watched it, here’s their plot blurb:

When the family business is fire, and you can’t handle the heat, it’s time to look for a new line of work – and maybe a new family, too.

Kazuma is a descendent of an ancient clan skilled in the magical Fire Arts. Unfortunately for him, the gift seems to have skipped a generation. Defeated by his younger, female cousin, Ayano, in a battle to become the clan’s successor, Kazuma is exiled with only the smoldering burn of failure to keep him company. But now he’s back, risen from the ashes and armed with a powerful new mojo that’s sure to fan the flames of the family rivalry. The cooler he gets – the hotter she burns, and when Wind and Fire collide, Tokyo is caught in the eye of the storm.

If you want my take…Kaze no Stigma is one of those shows I couldn’t stop watching, but oculdn’t explain exactly why. The characters and story aren’t particularly unique, but it’s a solid show with some great moments of charcter interaction.

    I LOVE Shakugan no Shana!

  2. Niko Says:

Seems interesting enough. I’ll try to give it a look.

  3. melchizedek Says:

It’s not Shakugan no Shana, it’s kaze no stigma

Both have good action but Shana has a cooler first season :)

Saw fansubs of kaze no stigma and liked, but kinda lost interest after a bit cause it seemed like they were not going much of anywhere after the whole framing of kazuma got sorted out.

  4. Flame_Haze Says:

I can’t stand this show at all and this is not the far superior show called Shakugan no Shana.

  5. Kirielson Says:

Gia I was so calling this Bandai at Otakon. At least it DID get licensed (although I should have seen it being Bandai). :D

  6. Kyaa the Catlord Says:

Still waiting for Darker than Black. :P

  7. Sabas Says:

Shakugan no Shana had a crappy male lead. :P Kaze no Stigma actually has a decent one. Hopefully the animation’s been improved from the TV airing because I recall the quality wasn’t consistent throughout.

  8. Kougeru Says:

lol Sabas, Yuji from Shakugan no Shana is the most ANNOYING male lead I’ve ever seen in an anime…I hate him more than any other character in any anime…

w00t!! I loved Kaze no Stigma, though it’s one of those animes which I’m really hesitant to recommend to people, despite how I loved it… I’m happy that it got licensed, though I’d rather see a remake or a second season, more than anything. Gonzo didn’t really do it justice.. sigh.

Oh, and the manga has already ended btw, a few months ago :(
