Rumor Alert: FUNimation sends C&Ds for Eva 1.0

So, it’s not really all that surprising anymore that FUNimation sends cease and desist letters for titles they may or may not be in the process of licensing: they’ve done so before on behalf of Gonzo, for example.
But apparently issuing cease and desist letters to fansubbers (like Nyoron) who have released or are releasing Evangelion 1.0: You Are (Not) Alone, and let’s face it– if it involves Gainax and/or Evangelion, it’s something to think about. Especially since previous Eva licensor ADV seems to still be recovering from hitting some financial snags.
The letter specifically states that FUNimation is acting on behalf of NTV and that the film is still unlicensed so this easily could mean absolutely nothing, especially since the companies have worked together before (NTV aired FUNi titles like Claymore and Host Club).
On the other hand, it could mean that FUNi is in talks, and we may finally see a Stateside release for the movie revamp of Eva. Who knows?
(P.S. On an unrelated note…hey, what’s this?…)

It would be really nice if Funimation would license this movie because this is one movie that I really would like to add to my DVD library.
If they license this movie, I hope they include the rest of the movies as well. Not sure how licensing works with anime that is not even out in Japan.

[...] Gia mentions that Funamation is sending cease and desist letters to fansubbers for Eva 1.0. Reminds me of that time I spoke with Artist Alley artist at NYAF, and he mentions how Funamation actually went thru his works, and pick out this and this and this.. and then this… and casually mentions how the artist can be sued if he sells any of those fan art pictures.. how sad.. I’m surprised the Evangelion movies haven’t been licensed yet. Haven’t they been out for awhile? I’d think that they’d have been snapped up almost immediately.

Eva 1.0? Official stateside release? Surely you jest.
If Funi does get Soul Eater, I’d like to see them step up and put it online. Funi already does it with Shikabane Hime. Soul Eater would just require some catching up, kind of like what Viz is doing with Naruto Shippuden.
Looking forward to checking out Anime Vice.
