Isn’t she lovely? This is a custom “gyaru” edition of a Gundam figure, the MG Gyan. Apparently a staffer at Bandai was “inspired” to give the figure a more “feminine air” and is now auctioning the results off, and it’s currently at ¥39,000 (about $370 USD). The seller’s desired price is ¥50,000 (about $475), and they’ve got another two days to make it.
I wonder how many people are preparing to snipe that sucker from space like Lockon?
Via Sankaku Complex, who also has more shots of the figure (and a picture of the original MG Gyan it was derived from).
Wait, what do you mean it wouldn’t be finished until 2011?! Well, fine, buy it for my birthday THAT year. Or Christmas. I’m not picky!
According to an over-a-week-old (zomg missed it!) Wired article, Future Robotics Technology Center director Takayuki Furuta fears that kids aren’t interested in robots anymore. (On what planet, exactly?)
So what does he decide to do? Build a Gundam, of course! At first he developed plans for a a 60-foot-tall version, but decided to scale it down to 13 for financial reasons, the wuss.
I don’t bother with a punchline, because Wired’s already got the best one:
He aims to have it working by 2011, when, ideally, someone will have created something for it to fight.
CollectionDX brings word of upcoming releases from Kaiyodo’s Revoltech action figure line, with the biggest name (as far as I’m concerned) being their Gurren-Lagann figure. At the affordable price of ¥1995 (about $19.50 USD), I’m looking forward to getting one of these. And I’m totally going to try and sit it in the meditating position they show in the above pic, too.
On the most recent Podtoid-san on Japanator (not the most recently posted one; the one we just recorded) Zero-chan and I talked a bit about Revoltechs, Kaiyodo’s line of jointed action figures with exchangable parts and accessories.
Well, Revoltech’s official blog makes mention of a new special edition Gurren Lagann figure showing at WonderFest on February 28th, and I think they’re also saying that it’ll be three times the usual size. (The regular figure will hit streets in May ‘08). Score!
Okay, this figure of Code Geass’ Cornelia Li Britannia is nice and all (though the woman needs to learn that purple lipstick goes with purple outfits and red goes with red– c’mon, lady), but where’s my hot smexy Nunally figure?!
So Clockwork Machina has this awesome post involving five of Revoltech’s figures of Danbo from Yotsuba&, and when I went to look at the source link, I spotted this:
Woohoo!
Konami has a figure of Tengen Toppa Gurren Lagann’s DFC moe mascot Nia available, which you can see here. As much as I like Yoko better as a character, I find this figure much better than their Yoko figure, whose biology-defying waist continues to terrify me. (Does the woman even HAVE ribs?).
Both of them have kinda dopey facial expressions I guess, but on Nia it’s more consistant with her character, you see…
Okay, I don’t know who she is or where she’s from (okay, fine, she’s Clalaclan and she’s from Shining Wind), and I don’t know why she stole the Statue of Liberty’s crown. But for some reason, I keep digging on this figure. I think it’s because in addition to the very nice breasts (which you can find on plenty of figures), her face and hair are really nicely done. Go Kotobukiya!
…Especially compared to Fasilana (from GunXSword), who also just came out. Fasilana’s hair is okay except for the random extra-long lock of bangs in the front (what’s up with random extra hair?). Her boobs are okay, but only as long as you keep the staff there (trust me, it looks weird without it), and then there are her hands. The first one is in a “call me” position (which doesn’t add any attractiveness to that dopey facial expression), and the lower one is WAY TOO FREAKIN’ LONG. Boo, Max Factory. BOOOO!
These are just kinda wrong and dirty and awesome.

But, really, they screwed up. Ryuk is supposed to be the reindeer! See the jump… Read the rest of this entry »
