Portland LiveJournal MeetUps FAQ

If you see any errors in the information below, or have a question that is not answered in this FAQ, please feel free to e-mail me.
  1. What is a "meet up"?
Exactly what it sounds like-- a bunch of people meet up (and hang out). In this case, it's the meetup for Portland-area livejournal users, although some non-LJers show up occasionally too. We pretty much just get together and chat and eat and maybe drink. We're all very friendly and outgoing, too, so we'd love to see you =)
  2. When is meetup?
Unless otherwise noted on the DamnPortlanders community, meet-ups occur on the fourth Tuesday of every month at 7pm. Please note that the fourth Tuesday is NOT always the last tuesday.
  3. Where is meetup?
Unless otherwise noted on the DamnPortlanders community, the MeetUps happen at the East Bank Saloon.
  4. That's a bar. Why aren't minors allowed?
Minors are officially allowed until 10pm, but the East Bank Saloon has never hassled us about people staying later. I was under 21 until not too long ago though, and I was never bothered the handful of times I stayed a bit later.
  5. Why do we have it on Tuesdays?
Because Tuesday is the random day that Meetup.com selected when we were using their service.
  6. Why aren't we using Meetup.com anymore?
Because they started charging, and we didn't care enough about them to pay.
  7. Why can't we change the night that meetup happens to a Wednesday/Friday/whatever?
Because every time someone has tried there has been angst. Any other day would have as many people who couldn't go, albeit different ones. If we did a poll-voting every month about what day meetup was, people would have trouble keeping track, especially since not everyone reads DP constantly. It's just a huge hassle that would take time to deal with properly.
  8. Why don't we have a second meetup?
We did, but the groups became awfully small, and I'm lazy, so we stopped. Feel free to start your own.
  9. Can I try to run my own meetup?
Sure! People use the DamnPortlanders community for their own get-togethers all the time. Feel free to make up a random meetup, as a one-time or as a regular thing!
  10. Who the hell put you in charge, anyway?
I guess myself, if anyone. I volunteered =P
  11. A few more notes:
You DON'T have to show up right on time. We're usually around until somewhere between 10 and 11.
You DON'T have to buy food and drinks (it doesn't hurt if you do, since that's what makes the restaurant not hate our loud, rowdy guts, but if a few people don't it's not the end of the world).
You DON'T even have to be socially adept! I can't think of a single regular who is! Woo-hoo!
