Continuing with our regular Rob Watch, check out one of his latest. Apparently the Catholic Bishops Conference of the Phillippines is starting a “Bible Anime” program, but it also apparently doesn’t know what “anime” means, since they will be producing a line of manga-esque comics about Biblical characters and passages.
OLD NEWS ROB. This is what, like, the 86th manga version of the Bible? (Okay, fine, third or so, whatever.)
What’s way more fun about his post is his list of manga Bible scenes he’d like to see. I’ll tease you with one, but you’ll have to visit him to get the rest:

If there’s one thing in California that I wish we had in Portland - besides lanes and parking spaces that are actually wide enough to fit cars in - it’s a Kinokuniya that gets all of the monthly magazines in on time. I’m kinda lucky to have one at all in Beaverton, but damn if they don’t get delayed on the magazines a lot. I didn’t get the May magazines until the day I left for California…May 17th.
Because of that, I’ll have TWO sets of magazine swag to try and find home for. Bah!

A bunch of new anime has been announced recently, mostly presumably for the Fall season. I’m always so excited about new shows. I think it’s a combination of being able to announce them to fans, and also just the
potential that’s there. Any of the shows could be the Next Big Thing, you know?
Anyway, some of the recent announcements…

WTF is going on?

Christ, there’s a lot of hullabaloo on the ‘net today. SlashThrough2007, Kodomo no Jikan, Anime > Sex at Wikipedia, Rozen Maiden ending, and all sorts of other junk.Let’s see, where to start…I guess the LJ thing sort of hit the fan first, so let’s get there, shall we? And I should note that since I’ve been a very poor LJ’er lately, I’m not necessarily the most up on how things went down…

Well said, Shinsen. Well said indeed.I don’t usually follow the super-long shounen series much -
Naruto’s never been my thing (I admit it: I met the fandom before the series, and the fans spooked me from it), I had pretty much given up on
Bleach by the time the fillers even started (I miss the Ichigo and Rukia banter; suddenly Rukia’s locked in a tower somewhere and Ichigo has to save her? Lame!), never was into
DBZ, etc.But I really like the fantasy 19th-century Europe aesthetic of
D.Gray-man, so I started following the series - manga and anime. And now the anime is in filler, for no discernible reason since I’m aware that there’s plenty more in the manga that hasn’t happened yet in the anime. It’s the first time I’ve ever had filler really affect my viewing. That said, these little solo arcs aren’t too bad - especially the bits where you get to see Kuro-chan and Miranda on their journey to become bona fide excorcists. But as always, they start to get a little warying…I’m not a Kanda fan so I’ll probably just skip ep 33, which is Kanda-centric. Fortunately Lenalee should be popping back up in the next few episodes, huzzah!

Not as many series as the first part, but hey, we’re now getting into the shows I’m not actually all that excited about. So, without further ado…

This entry was swiped directly from my blog over at animeOnline. It’s a little old; I’ve watched a lot more of these shows but haven’t really changed opinion on them. Part II is coming up next.
So. LOTS of new anime this season, and I’m trying to catch as much of it as possible…or at least as many first episodes as possible. And I have so many yet left to watch! But, here are some of my early impressions:

Dear Bones,I know you like including comic relief episodes in your series. And most of the time, I’m okay with that.
However, in a show with as serious a tone as Darker Than Black, it’s sort of akin to putting a speed bump in the middle of a 65mph freeway. Much better to keep the comic relief to banter and one-liners throughout the series. In other words, get this redhead and her idiot boss out of my show, and give me more Hei.

I have exactly one word to say about this episode: FINALLY.

First off - I’m at Fanime Con, and I got a Gurren Lagann DRILL *_* It was at Gainax’s Gurren Lagann panel. <3
But back to the topic at hand: Gurren Lagann episode 8. I find it kind of distressing how many people were shocked by what happened in this episode. o_O; But I’ll talk about it in detail under a jump, for the sake of spoilers. Read the rest of this entry »
