About goddamn time! MangaCast spotted some new VIZ licenses on Amazon.com, including the fantastically badass smuggler dramedy Black Lagoon, as well as another work by Vampire Knight’s Matsuri Hino called WANTED, two Arina Tanemura manga– Time Stranger Kyoko and one called Kanshaku Tamano Yuuutsu (no relation to Haruhi; “Short-Tempered Melancholy”) and the manga of Rosario to Vampire. Oh, and another Akira Toriyama work: Cowa!

Also licensed: Ayumi Komura’s Mixed Vegetables, Hisaya Nakajo’s Sugar Princess, and Youzabara Kanari and Kuroko Yabuguchi’s Gimmick!. MangaCast also has covers for previously-announced (I think) titles Cat Eyed Boy, One Pound Gospel, and of course, Slam Dunk.

Sorry I was a little quiet yesterday, but I’m working on a seekrit projekt. ♥ Here’s what’s up as of this morning:

  • The big news today is of an adaptation of Petit Eva, those cute little SD Evangelion figures that spawned some 4koma strips as ads recently. ANN beat me to the details, such as the fact that all the characters (including the angels!) are being developed into high school characters. Oddly, though, they say that it’s being “made into video,” not that it’s being made into an anime - the whole thing is still a little unclear.
  • While I’m on ANN, they have an interview with Arina Tanemura up. I love how the guy’s like, “I hear you’re a big fan of Morning Musume!” And she’s all “Yes, I’m a big fan!” and he’s all “ORLY!? ME 2?!” (…to paraphrase).
  • The Minamike anime adaptation (based on the manga by Kyou no Go no Ni’s Koharu Sakuraba) is set to start in October. Guess I’ll have to get cracking on a Fall Preview, eh?
  • For you dubaholics, a Red Garden trailer from ADV.
  • International Manga Award winner Madeleine Rosca has part three of her Japan travelogue up.
  • ComiPress has word on a new Ishino Arashi manga, and a new US manga-style advertising company.
  • Last but not least: this has got to be the coolest punishment for a cop ever.

  • As Promised: Giant Catchup Post-tan

I’m not going to fool myself into thinking y’all don’t follow plenty of other anime blogs, so here’s the quickie version. Now that my current major deadlines are over and I seem to be seeing the light on this cold, I should be back on track. ♥

  • Lots of live-action (including some yaoi)
  • World Cosplay Summit is Go!
  • Some fall anime start dates are starting to pour in.
  • Interviews with Arina Tanemura and Takehiko Inoue are up.
  • OMG! NPR on AMVs! WTF?
  • The most expensive t-shirt EVAR?
  • TOKYOPOP + Hollywood talent agency = Ack!
  • Gurren Lagann MMO goes down the tubes (or rather, we finally hear why)
  • Manga, iPhones, etc.
  • Aaand a website for Blue Drop has opened, along with one for the upcoming ‘net anime Saishuu Shiken Kujira.

I think that’s about everything, but if I missed something I’ll just post it separately, I guess. ♥

  • The Morning Catchup

  • ANN managed to go to the Shojo Beat panel, where it was announced that Arina Tanemura’s Kanshaku Dama no Yuuutsu will be published under the title Short-tempered Melancholy in the magazine.
  • According to Canned Dogs, the Korean drama I Am Sam stole character designs from the eroge (and anime) Shuffle!, plus they found some more manga toilet paper.
  • Japanator reported that Bandai Entertainment had changed their minds and was going to dub CLAMP School Detectives after all - apparently it was an Otakon announcement. They’re currently down, but they should be back up in a little while, I think.
  • Gunota notes that jrock band L’arc-en-Ciel will perform the opening theme for Gundam 00, called “Daybreak’s Bell.” I think they should rename the show “Gundammit, women, watch something other than Wing.”
  • The Mainichi has an article (in Japanese) about the birth of the manga Tonari no 801-chan.

Today, the final panel: CMX. And that’ll be the end of SDCC coverage! Wait, really? @_@ What a long and short weekend it’s been…
