Surprise announcement! :)
Bandai Entertainment just announced that in R2, Rolo will be voiced by Spike Spencer.
Surprise announcement! :)
Oooookay! We’re starting with the Dark Horse panel, and they’ve announced that they will announce stuff at NYAF– whee! But I guess nothing new here probably. Nonetheless, I blog on!
We’re looking at samples of various upcoming relelases, including Hellsing 9 (!), the new Ah My Goddess, Berserk, Gantz, etc.
The usual release dates here…Hellsing 9 (!) on October 22nd still(!). Noooooovember 5 will see v4 of Blood+ manga and v3 of the novel. The 12th will see the Domo-kun 10 inch as well as the mini Domo-kuns (a couple of colors will be Hot Topic exclusives).
Dark Horse editors have control over their works, including manga editors, so rather than having a single policy for honorifics and the like, it varies by title. Little tangent!
Kurosagi 8 and AMG 23 (I think) on 12/24…1/07 is Ghost Talkers Daydream 3, 1/29 is the D bust (and its monochrome variant, huh). 1/28 is Eden 11, and once again, a plea for people to buy it.
2/04 Blood+ 5 manga, 2/18 Gantz 4 and AMG 11. Feb will also see another MPD Psycho. March will have Ah My Goddess Colors, and Fred Gallagher of Megatokyo has written its afterword. March will also see the Blood+ novel Russian Rose and VHD 12 and….too many! can’t type fast enough! Sorry. XS Hybrid’s next volume was in there somewhere.
You can get all the dates on the official Dark Horse site. -_-;;
Lengthy discussion of the Shinji Ikari Raising Project, which will have a fanart and letter column in the back, which is cute. We’re also talking about a fourth Eva manga in Japan, sort of Evangelion-meets-X apparently, in Asuka if you’re interested.
Some CLAMP mangettes talk, let’s see if there’s anything new…Bill Flanagan from VIZ (of Tsubasa and xxxHOLiC) will translate. Still not announcing the title or plot. The news will be out soonish thanks to book magazines and stuff…argh! That’s it. Carl, a genre would make me SO happy.
More Dirty Pair novels? Planned, yes. Didn’t catch that second question…Man, I got this plush Mario coin box and its voice box is VERY sensitive. So, sorry anyone else!
Homunculus manga? No plans, but Horn used to edit another manga by the same guy (missed the name). Someone’s asking if they’re going to go back and fix typos in the first volumes of AMG…if you guys see errors, email them to editors and stuff. Sometimes they can fix stuff that will be reprinted. Ditto for anime, guys– asking people about specific mistakes at a con won’t help much ’cause it’s hard for them to remember everything!
Someone wants them to license Moyashimon and I agree. I think that’s a Kodansha title right? Maybe their new US pub will do it. Hey, haven’t heard much about that in a while…
That’s the end!
Aaaand Bandai Entertainment producer Toshifumi Yoshida is here in place of Robert Napton, huzzah!
Technical difficulties are now over’d, yay. Opening with the Geass trailer. Oh, Toshi told me he’d have nothing new, so if you’re hoping for a new announcement you don’t need to stick around unless you think he’ll accidentally let something slip! ;)
Geass R2 will premiere on Adult Swim in October.
Gurren Lagann sub-only is all out now. The bilingual version starts release in November with the awesome box and light-up core srill (*drool*). Part 1 contains eps 1-9 or you can buy two separate discs.
Gundam 00 will air as soon as Gurren Lagann finishes on sci-fi; Toshi isn’t sure if it’ll be two episodes a week or one. Lucky Star v4 in November…
The Girl who Leapt Through Time manga will be released in a one volume every other month scheme, yay! I finally saw it while it ran in Seattle (a run which was extended), it was great. DVD in November, LE comes with the soundtrack.
Gundam Seed Destiny OVAs…Rocket Girls…Silent Mobius movie (which is out now)…aaaaand Ghost in the Shell 2: Innocence, their first blu-ray release (and many more to come next year, we’re told). Sword of the Stranger, whose bd release will be early next year, maybe February.
Hayate…huzzah! No dates yet though. And of course, Honneamise…Freedom, the Gunbuster vs Diebuster movie. Anime Village is now dot anime. Aaand manga: Eureka Seven, Witchblade Takeru, Geass (yay!), The Girl who Leapt through Time, Lucky Star, and…the end!
Q&As: could they release the film One Stormy Night? Toshi’s not familiar with it at all. How is the sub-only relelase done well? Toshi explains why they did the split but doesn’t say if it’s performed well, but he hints at future swag for the series.
More Universal Century Gundam? Maybe but there’s a lot out there. And the dvd printing problems? They’ll have more info at NYAF but they’re currently investigating. Why 5am for Geass? Ask Cartoon Network.
Any more R2 info? Nope! There’ll be stuff at the Geass panel tomorrow though. (I’ll be there.) Rumors about Eureka Seven movie? Rumors so far. Macross Frontier? He’d love to but there’s complications because of Harmony Gold. Gurren Lagann parallel works and movie? They hope so!
Girl who Leapt Through Time blu-ray? If Japan makes one they’ll try to get it. Sola? True Tears? Toshi says there may be more info at nyaf because Loy Fruel (formerly of BVU) will be there.
The end!
Aaaaand AWA has no internets. But never fear– speed gia and her smartphone are here! If there’s anything new in the FUNimation panel (or the Bandai panel after it), you can bet I’ll let you know.
Unrelatedly, why are panel rooms so dang cold? ;.;
The men of the hour just entered the room: Adam Sheehan and Lance Heiskel. Looks like only Sheehan will be at the panel table but that’s typical.
Opening up with the Darker than Black trailer, and they’ll close with the new one from the FUNi podcast.
Then there’s the usual industry talk– don’t panic, blu-ray, change, cycles, etc. YouTube, Funi channel, funi channel mobile…
Hellsing Ultimate 4 is coming 9/23 and the LE will come with a 200 page artbook @.@ Can’t remember if that’s new but it’s awesome. Devil May Cry v3 due 10/07. Ghost Hunt part one (eps 1-13) on 10/07 as well (not new but yaaaay). Jyu-Oh-Sei full series also on the 7th.
Negima!? spring and summer specials on 10/14. Claymore v1 also; starter set has a collectible 24-page booklet. Ouran part 1 on 10/28 and 2 on 1/06.
Afro Samurai Resurrection, yaaaay! Mostly you know this: it’ll be a full-length movie, Lucy Liu as the villainess, etc. Now, trailer. And finally, Darker than Black on 11/25, starter set has another collectible book.
Moving on to q&as. Kyo Kara Maoh!? if they pick it up and do it they’ll try to keep the original cast but no promises. Do they have internships? They have an internship but he’s not sure if they’re looking right now.
Is Funi going to do the new Fullmetal show and will they do Soul Eater? They’d love to do both but no promises, but they’ll probably be first in line if the FMA thing gets made.
Any changes in cover art/look of boxes for Geneon boxes? No, they’re staying consistant and Geneon is actually doing production. How much for Samurai 7 on BD? $99 for all 26 eps. Will they do older shows? Haven’t yet but may eventually. May do DtB on BD but nothing official there either.
DBGT will be 4:3, not widescreen. Why was Nanoha’s name shortened? JP companies’ request. D.Gray-Man is going well, just started recording. DtB box: two 13-ep boxes? No box is I think what he said. Witchblade on iTunes? No confirmed date, hopefully soon.
Initial D? They haven’t picked any more up but there’s always a chance. Swamped with Geneon and Sojitz stuff. Baccano? Sub eps aare online but that’s it for now. But it is coming along.
They are not involved in the live-action DBZ movie and can’t make Piccolo green. Ouran themes will have English versions but both will be on dvd. Possible hint at possible attempts to get the show on tv? it’ be nice to see more female-oriented anime on the tube.

Anime:
- Bandai Entertainment has announced new screenings of The Girl Who Leapt Through Time in NYC again (dubbed), San Francisco (subbed), Durham (subbed), and Philadelphia (subbed).
- Sankaku Complex has word that obnoxious otaku have bullied seiyuu Erino Hazuki (Aria’s Akari, Princess Tutu’s Malen and Uzura) so badly that she’s actually had to abandon her blog. Don’t you guys know that most women aren’t as thick-skinned as me? Yeesh.
- According to Moon Phase, Waki Yamato’s manga version of The Tale of Genji (sometimes credited as the world’s first novel) is being adapted into an anime. Yamato’s version is titled Asakiyumemishi and ran in Kodansha’s Mimi back in the 1980s, and Kodansha even released some of it as part of their “bilingual manga” back in the very early ’00s (I think I’ve got the timeframe right on that, anyway).
Manga:
- Yen+ subscriptions are win!
Cons:
- New York Anime Fest has their panel schedule up, and Anime Weekend Atlanta has their full guest list online as well! Man, I’m gonna be busy…
