Let the Speculation Begin

I was too busy cramming for my Japanese midterm to notice this for myself (and tut-tut, FUNimation, for not shipping me a press release), but AoD did: the new FUNimation Countdown promises an announcement on Friday at 12pm PST, the company’s first acquisition of 2008. It links to a thread on the FUNimation forums where speculation bounds.

So! Let’s analyze. Red blotchy, kinda violent/messy looking font for the numbers. Archaic script for “days”/”hours”/”minutes.”

Because of the red font I’d be kind of tempted to guess Black Lagoon or Hellsing, but I kinda doubt they managed to negotiate either with Geneon THAT fast. It could conceivably be Majin Tantei Nougami Neuro, but the font is considerably darker-looking than the show. Perhaps Production I.G’s Shinrei Kari/Ghost Hound? But the archaic font doesn’t quite fit. The Gunslinger Girl sequel season might be a possibility since FUNi has the first one, but…eh. Hakaba Kitarou? Mnemosyne? Persona -trinity soul-? Surely not Zetsubou! Could it be Kaze no Stigma? (Ehhh, I’d figure a blue, or something that invoked wind (kaze) would be a better choice than red, then.)

Someone on the forum thread suggested Claymore, a distinct possibility, especially since the show was rumored to have been licensed by FUNi back in December, so I think that’s my official guess.

Another possibility is D.Gray-Man, but VIZ has the manga, so it seems likely that they’d get first crack at the anime. (I’m always a little surprised it hasn’t been brought to the US yet; but then, it’s a second-tier show compared to Bleach, Naruto, etc. in terms of popularity in Japan.)

Well, there you have it. Ponder away, folks.

No, seriously. The girl tames MOOSE in her free time. And don’t get me started on all the flowers that flock around her. WTF!

…Oh well. At least the next ep will be onsen goodness. ♥

Speaking of onsen eps, I forgot to say yesterday that I love how Darker than Black set up to have an onsen ep and then had it be EMO!YIN and no onsen at all. Joke’s on you, fanboys!

I’ve just been skimming D.Gray-Man eps lately because of all the filler. Why can’t anime filler ever be like Oreo filling? All yummy and stuff. Bah. But it looks like next ep will at least return to Allen and Lenalee, so I’m not dropping it just yet. Mm, Lenalee.

I’m being really slow on starting up summer series. Mostly because they’re being very slow to get subbed, but also because I’m still watching a SHIT TON OF STUFF. I can’t wait for the next ep of Gurren Lagann though. ♥

Romeo x Juliet is NOT going to be 14 eps, thank god. And next episode involves MANUAL LABOR!ROMEO! Which amuses me. He’s actually developing a backbone very nicely - not some lame insta-GAR, but he’s not just remaining a complete pansy either. Keep it up, Gonzo!

Let’s see…in other news, it looks like I’m gonna have to work in a trip to Arizona next year, assuming that the con develops into something more than “Yaoi-Press-Fest,” as Jordan put it. Um…anyone live there and have some crash space? ♥♥

D.Gray-man 32

D.Gray-man 32
Well said, Shinsen. Well said indeed.I don’t usually follow the super-long shounen series much - Naruto’s never been my thing (I admit it: I met the fandom before the series, and the fans spooked me from it), I had pretty much given up on Bleach by the time the fillers even started (I miss the Ichigo and Rukia banter; suddenly Rukia’s locked in a tower somewhere and Ichigo has to save her? Lame!), never was into DBZ, etc.But I really like the fantasy 19th-century Europe aesthetic of D.Gray-man, so I started following the series - manga and anime. And now the anime is in filler, for no discernible reason since I’m aware that there’s plenty more in the manga that hasn’t happened yet in the anime. It’s the first time I’ve ever had filler really affect my viewing. That said, these little solo arcs aren’t too bad - especially the bits where you get to see Kuro-chan and Miranda on their journey to become bona fide excorcists. But as always, they start to get a little warying…I’m not a Kanda fan so I’ll probably just skip ep 33, which is Kanda-centric. Fortunately Lenalee should be popping back up in the next few episodes, huzzah!
