Go!Comi Snags ‘07-Ghost,’ Sells Steinberger Doujinshi

Figures, I finally manage to get out and DO stuff on a weekend, and something actually HAPPENS.

So, if you’ve got a single anime news feed on your reader, odds are good that you’ve already heard that Go! Comi has licensed 07-Ghost, Yuki Amemiya’s 2005 shounen fantasy (and debut manga). It revolves around Teito Klein, an elite student at a military academy where he is among the top student users of “zaiphon,” basically a magic ability. Just as he’s passed his final exam to get into the army, he overhears something he isn’t supposed to and becomes a fugitive. Oops!

Also of note, I spotted this in their store. If you’re a fan of Aimee Major Steinberger, who created Go! Comi’s Japan Ai comic, they’re selling a limited quantity of her doujinshi sketchbook, Water Lily. Just thought it was kinda neat.

On a sidenote releating to 07-Ghost, it runs in Ichinjinsha’s Zero-Sum anthology. Canned Dogs has a report from Ichijinsha about the readership of Zero-Sum and its other anthologies. It’s interesting data; be sure and check it out.

Quickie: Heaven Opens in Akiba

AkibaBlog has a big, photo-heavy article on the new Mandarake Complex that has opened up in Akihabara. Games, manga, figures/toys, DVDs, doujinshi, costumes, cosplaying staff, you name it, they have it. Check it out and drooool.

Kyonko’s On Top, And I Don’t Mean That In A Dirty Way

According to AkibaBlog, one of the two Kyonko– aka The Melancholy of Haruhi Suzumiya gender-bending –doujinshi I mentioned a while back has hit the #1 spot at Melon Books’ Akihabara location.

Eeeexcellent. My evil plan to take over the world via gender-bending doujinshi is working!

The Adventures of Kyonko

By gia on April 2nd, 2008   Misc, On the Fridge, Swag

There are a lot of fans out there of the cast of The Melancholy of Haruhi Suzumiya gender-swapped, and particularly of “Kyonko,” the name given to female!Kyon.

So many, in fact, that not one but TWO doujinshi featuring Kyonko have been released. One version offers us Kyon as a former boy who woke up in the morning to find himself a girl, while the other features both Kyon and Koizumi swapping genders.

I’m…really hoping my local doujin guy snags these. ♥

Doujinshi Gets the Smackdown

The Tokyo Metropolitan Business Center has cancelled an event called the ABnormal Carnival– a doujinshi event which features some of those sub-sub-genres we love so dearly, like futanari, preggo, cross-dressing boys, and tentacles (and some we HATE HATE HATE! like shota).

The event has been hosted at this location for six years, but this year “…a center official discovered a Web site that showed the comics sold and displayed at the event depicting sexual acts with children and other bizarre acts” and the center told the organization they couldn’t use the location this year.

It took ‘em six years to figure out what “shota” is?

The $2,637 Doujinshi

By gia on September 12th, 2007   Gossip, JP News, Manga, News

Canned Dogs reports that Yasamata Shiyami, the doujinshi artist who was arrested for not properly censoring his doujinshi, has been ordered to pay a fine of ¥300,000– which comes out to about $2600 USD. Which is a pain in the ass for an individual to have to pay, but as far as it goes, it’s not an insane fine. Canned Dogs speculates along with others that the entire event may have been merely a warning for the doujinshi community…but an expensive one for poor Shiyami.

Okay, you may have already seen articles about the new manga Bible around the blog rounds, but I just have one thing to say about it:

It gives an entirely new meaning to the concept of “Bible slash.”

I expect to see some pretty interesting doujinshi at fuyucomi ‘08.

Anime Expo Doujinshi

…But not much! I picked up some manga at the Go! Comi booth (Train + Train volume two, After School Nightmare volume four), and then I headed to Hen Da Ne! for some doujinshi ♥

I would like to note, for the record, that as usual I bought more het than yaoi. Two yaoi Geass doujinshi (and one’s just gag, not smut), two het Geass doujinshi (one CC, one Viletta), and two het Gurren Lagann doujinshi (one Yoko, one Nia - yay for Hen Da Ne being fast, even if that guy who does all the yelling about the yaoi is a complete asshole).

I have a friend of mine keeping a watch out for my Geass figure that I want, though I don’t hold a ton of hope that he’ll be able to find it, but beyond that, all I have left to buy is…a big stack of manga. I should make a list of stuff so I actually know what to look for. *grumble*

Anyway. I’ve covered VIZ, Seven Seas, Bandai Visual USA, and the Haruhi seiyuu panels so far, and I’m hanging around waiting for the Aurora Publishing panel, after which I will meet my boss (and, quite possibly, my coworker Dale, who I have yet to actually meet in person).

No really major news so far; VIZ didn’t announce a single new license, amazingly. It looks like they’re saving up for Otakon. 7S is broadening their ranges to include both yaoi and children’s books - go figure. BVU snagged Super Robot Wars and a CG Gundam spinoff called MS Igloo. They SAY they’re not going to start taking over the Gundam franchise from Bandai Entertainment, but we’ll see.

Alrighty, just a few minutes until Aurora. I’ve declined to wait in line for a raffle ticket and swag bag. (Hopefully I can get the swag later, and I’m not sure I’m even allowed to enter raffles. I’m so well-behaved I can hardly stand myself!)
