Anime on DVD reports that Bandai Entertainment has acquired the rights to Ghost in the Shell 2: Innocence, will be dubbing it with their usual GitS cast, and will release it on Blu-Ray as well as DVD. No date yet, but it sounds like it’ll probably be in ‘09.
Ohhhh, Variety. Such a wondrous deliverer of news. Here’s the scoop: DreamWorks is going to make a 3D live-action movie based on the original Ghost in the Shell manga with Avi Arad, Ari Arad and Steven Paul of Seaside Entertainment set to produce, and apparently it was Stephen Spielberg’s influence that got them the rights to the title (though he’s not directing or anything, apparently). The adaptation will be written by Jamie Moss, who wrote the recently-released Street Kings.
Whee!
9-5 Mac reports that Starz Media has promised to make “four cult Manga anime classics available through iTunes, including the ground-breaking Ghost In the Shell.” It’s available elsewhere too, but hey, iTunes! (I despise iTunes, for the record.)
