These AnimeSuki folks are so clever! Okay kids, last week we speculated that one of Gainax’s new projects is Ghost Rhapsody based on several clues: a character who grows up in England and becomes a rock star, based on a shoujo manga, and Gainax’s Hiroyuki Yamaga brought the director and character designer to England for research.

Tadashi Hiramatsu, who has worked with Gainax before and who states on his blog that he’s working on Ghost Rhapsody’s adaptation (announced in ‘05), also recently mentioned that he was back from England, and Ghost Rhapsody involves the ghost of a British rock star. So, there’s that. But now board member manuloz has spotted another returnee from England: Akemi Hayashi, who did character design for Fruits Basket and Peacemaker, as well as doing animation direction and key animation for shows like Gunbuster 2 and Gurren Lagann (Gainax connection!).

So, that leaves our speculated movie at:

Project Title: Ghost Rhapsody
Producer: Hiroyuki Yamaga
Director: Tadashi Hirametsu
Character Designer: Akemi Hayashi

…We shall see, my friends. We shall see. (And yes, I reused the image from earlier. SHH! There’s not a lot out there of this manga even in Japanese…)

Speculation: Gainax’s 2+2 May Equal ‘Ghost Rhapsody’

Much speculation on the AnimeSuki forums about what Gainax’s new movie project may be (the one based on a shoujo manga), and several people are starting to come to the conclusion that it’s likely to be Ghost Rhapsody, Kazuma Yamashita’s shoujo horror manga.

See, Tadashi Hiramatsu– who is working on the adaptation, which was announced back in ‘05 –says on his blog that he’s currently working on it. Hiramatsu has worked on Gainax projects in the past, including the live-action Cutey Honey movie, Gunbuster 2, His and Her Circumstances, Nadia - Secret of the Blue Water, etc. And he also mentioned that he just got back from England, where Gainax co-founder Hiroyuki Yamaga recently visited with the character designer and director of a new Gainax project.

From what I can find on Ghost Rhapsody, the manga features a woman who is getting ready to do a kekkon taishoku, a marriage retirement (i.e. she gets married and quits her job), Hikaru. She experiences an interesting phenomenon: she is visited by the ghost of her favorite rock star, Ronny, who has become her guardian spirit.

So, there you go…a rock musician. Sound likely? I think so!
