Cat on a Hot Tin…Uh, Street

Fan of Hana Yori Dango? Maybe a few of creator Youko Kamio’s other works? How about the romantic drama Cat Street? Yes? Good news for you! It’s being developed into a live-action drama.

For those of you who have no clue what the series is, it’s about a 16-year-old girl named Keito Aoyama who used to be a child star. Aimless and goal-less, she finally finds herself enrolled in a school called El Liston, a school for students like her, who have no place where they belong. Along with her only remaining childhood friend and a group of new classmates, Keito has to learn how to grow up normal-style.

Sounds cute, if not terribly unique, so we’ll see how it goes.

Taiwan Faster Than Tokyo?

07/21/07 0357 hours

According to this article from the Daily Yomiuri, Taiwan is faster than Japan at adapting Japanese manga into live-action TV dramas. Examples? Two drama adaptations currently in the works in Japan - Yamada Taro Monogatari and Hana-Kimi - were adapted into Taiwanese dramas a while ago - the first back in 2001 and the second last year.

Another example: Hana Yori Dango, which also spawned a Chinese boy band titled F4 - the four guys who played the band’s members in the TV show. Interesting stuff! They also talk a bit about China exporting dramas to other countries, though it looks like none of them have made it to Japan yet. Gee, I wonder why.
