Will Someone Please Think About the Kodomo (no Jikan)?

10/05/07 1321 hours

So, I remember being kind of surprised when people said TV Saitama might not air Higurashi no Naku Koro ni Kai during the whole Axegate dust-up (for those who weren’t paying attention, Higurashi and School Days had airings pulled on many stations due to the public (mis)perception that the violent schoolgirl-featuring shows may have inspired one girl to kill her dad with an axe).

Why was I surprised? Because TV Saitama is the station that was set to air Kodomo no Jikan (known to many in the U.S. as Nymphet, or That Loli Series Seven Seas Licensed and Wussed Out On).

But now TV Saitama has taken Higurashi off of their line-up, and Kodomo no Jikan has also disappeared from their schedule, says Canned Dogs.

There are other stations listed on KoJikan’s official site (and a CM, by the way): Chiba TV, Mie TV, and KBS Kyoto. Let’s hope they stick with it!

Standing Corrected

Canned Dogs now says that Higurashi no Naku Koro ni Kai is now airing on TV Saitama, so yesterday’s dire predicament apparently did not lengthen the attack of the Nice Boat.

So now we can get back to our usual displays of gratuitious violence. WHEW!

Double the Trouble for Axegate 2007

09/23/07 2107 hours

Those crazy Japanese kids are at it again: according to Canned Dogs, a 15-year-old boy attempted to cut off his father’s head with an ax (though he apparently didn’t succeed; currently, the father is still alive).

The outlook for continued airings of Higurashi in the near future look considerably dim, as does the outlook for School Days‘ finale.

Dear children of Japan,

Quit trying to kill your freakin’ parents with axes. Or any other weapon, for that matter. Yeesh.

No love,
gia

UFO Newscatcher: Is It Bedtime Yet?

09/21/07 2129 hours

A few more items before I hit the proverbial hay:

  • A couple of items from Canned Dogs: a school for porn stars is in the works, though it’s only for MALE would-be porn stars. Girls are born knowing how to fake an orgasm, so I guess it would be superfluous to include them. Also, another Axegate 2007 tidbit– AT-X aired the Higurashi no Naku Koro ni Kai episode everyone else has been skipping, so odds are good that they might air the final ep of School Days. No official announcement has been made, however.
  • In what MUST be an attempt to replace this guy’s wife in my waifu harem, Love Hina creator Ken Akamatsu’s wife Kanon has opened her own website, which features– among other things –herself cosplaying as a bunny girl, a nurse, a maid, a bunny girl, and one of the girls from Pretty Cure…and yet, nothing of her in one of Akamatsu’s series? FAIL! C’mon, anyone with a freakin’ Goodwill in a ten-mile radius can at least pull off Naru.

    …She is pretty cute though.

  • Update on Higurashi

    09/20/07 0915 hours

Apparently people on 2ch were joking about how the aforementioned girl-killing-dad-with-axe incident was kinda like Higurashi, which lead a few news publications to pick up on the story, which was then caught by a TV show…and hence, cancellation.

The power of the Internet, my friends: do not underestimate it. Fear it.

The Nice Boat Sinks Higurashi Too

    09/20/07 0741 hours

Canned Dogs now reports that at least one station has scrapped an episode of Higurashi no Naku Koro ni Kai, home of the violent lolis. CD notes that this episode wasn’t even supposed to have any violence (I admit, I’m skeptical!).

So, what could be next? Claymore? Bokurano?

Wait, no, I know. They’ll cancel Potemayo.

Seriously, this bitch is packing a serious scythe. And a scythe is KINDA like an ax…

Summer 2007: The Reckoning (Part I)

Okay, time to get down to business: summer 2007 anime, so far. This is all best on ONE ep, since none of them have more than that out, so take it all with a grain of salt, folks.

Status: …May give it another episode.
I was pretty with-it with this series (especially OMG LESBIAN SUBTEXT!) until “Justice” and the five-year-old doujinshika loli appeared. They could have been funny, but instead they just seemed…creepy. I also just felt kind of embarassed watching the main character decide to do doujinshi to make money. I may watch another ep to see if I can get over it, but I was really underwhelmed with ep one.

Higurashi no Naku Koro ni Kai
    Status: Gonna try ep 2…
Okay, I already posted on this one, but it bears repeating: MOST BORING FIRST EP EVER. I understand you wanna recap, but christ, find a way to make it interesting.

Another one I already talked about, which is not quite as over-the-top wacky-funny as I was expecting (a la Love Hina at least at first), plus the female lead isn’t quite as “cool” as I was expecting (she sounds like she’s six!). But it’s pretty cute, so I’ll keep watching.

This is definitely my favorite so far. The first one to actually make me laugh, with excellent animation and a soundtrack I’m already dying for? Yes plz. I also love all the goofy jokes on the chalkboards in the background. ♥

Not as much of a loli-fest as I expected, it looks kinda sweet. I’ll keep watching. But look for my next post about some AWFULLY SIMILAR CHARACTER DESIGNS this year.

    Status: Watching
I liked season one. I’m enjoying season two. This is not exactly a deep, thoughtful anime…it’s sort of the anime equivalent of a summer popcorn movie, it’s just enjoyable.

    Zombie-Loan
    Status: Watching
The first one I watched this season and discussed here. I’m curious to see where this goes, especially since it’s so crazy different from Rozen Maiden (and/or Shugo Chara! for that matter).

So, that’s 7 out of 21. I have the first eps of Moetan and School Days left to watch, and a lot hasn’t aired yet. For the rest: where are my fucking subs?! (Especially for Mushi-uta, damnit?!)

    Ha! Got one!

    Kenko Zenrakei Suieibu Umisho

Alright, I watched the first ep of Higurashi Kai, but it was boring as all get-out. At first I was glad for a recap since I didn’t watch season one, but christ was it dull. So I won’t bother going into that. Here’s hoping ep two is worth a damn!

I also watched the first episode of Kenko Zenrakei Suieibu Umisho, henceforth to be referred to as “Umisho,” or “Mary Sue Goes Skinny-Dipping.” It looks cute. I was expecting it to be more over-the-top hilarious, but I’ll give it a few episodes to see where it goes, if only for the fanservice’s sake. (Also, I really like the way they do eyes in this show. Go fig.)

Oh, and Kaze no Stigma 12 is out, and Ren’s arc is done. Good, now he can focus his energies on getting Kazuma and Ayano together. And anyone who tells me that the series isn’t gearing up to get them together can watch the episode 13 preview and suck it.
