Moetron has Haruhi 2 scans from Newtype. ‘Nuff said.

Well, okay, more can be said. Not a lot of new info comes out of these images (for more on that big block of text, see Canned Dogs and Sankaku Complex), but you do get to see a long-haired Haruhi wearing a different uniform…and if you’ve read translations of the novels, you know why. ♥

Or at least, so says the Kadokawa page on the Tokyo International Anime Fair website. Well, okay, I said the mighty and manly parts. Here’s what they said (my rough translation):

The March 10th issue of Newtype will announce the Tengen Toppa Gurren Lagann movie version and give it a strong push!

It’s a gekijouban (movie version), not a jissha eiga (live-action movie), so I assume it’s an animated feature set in the Gurren Lagann-verse.

If you’ll excuse me, I have to go wipe some manly tears from my face. And preorder that issue of Newtype.

So I just got my Amazon.co.jp shipment for the month, containing the October issues of Newtype (JP), Animedia, Animage, and this month I also got The Sneaker, the light novel magazine that publishes Haruhi (among other things). As always, the swag is slightly overwhelming.

1. Darker than Black artbook.
2. Full-size Darker than Black poster (with Geass on the other side, but I already have Geass posters a-plenty…but where will I put it? T_T)
3. Gurren Lagann art/info book.
4. Evangeliwon tote bag.
5. Lucky Star poster.
6. Lucky Star stickers (which will be on my laptop shortly).
7. Haruhi fan (you have to have a handle for it, but it’s pretty nice– Noizi Ito is fabulous).

10. An animator guidebook.

Most of the US mags come with, what, a centerfold and a DVD? Eh. Oh, and not pictured here– one of the mags comes with Lucky Star English/Japanese flash cards. Like, one side has a Japanese quote, and the other side has the English. AWESOME.

SaiAni is currently reporting that Newtype - a popular Japanese monthly anime magazine - is establishing its own anime channel.

According to the report, Kadokawa Shoten, the publisher of Newtype (the Japanese one), announced the establishment of the Newtype Channel today in Japan. It isn’t a linear TV station, however, but a web-based one. A single episode of an anime costs ¥105, about 86 cents USD (are you listening, American anime distributors?). A splash site is already up, and it features Suzumiya Haruhi no Yuuutsu, so I’m going to go out on a limb and suggest that the show will be among its introductory titles.

So now the only question is: can people NOT in Japan buy episodes, too?

If there’s one thing in California that I wish we had in Portland - besides lanes and parking spaces that are actually wide enough to fit cars in - it’s a Kinokuniya that gets all of the monthly magazines in on time. I’m kinda lucky to have one at all in Beaverton, but damn if they don’t get delayed on the magazines a lot. I didn’t get the May magazines until the day I left for California…May 17th.

Because of that, I’ll have TWO sets of magazine swag to try and find home for. Bah!
