Rozen Maiden Manga to Return?

By gia on March 17th, 2008   Gossip, JP News, Manga, News

Some of you (especially Desu fans!) may remember the hubbub over Rozen Maiden last year. After taking a hiatus due to differences of opinion between creators Peach-Pit and their editors at Comic BIRZ, the series was unceremoniously wrapped up in a single chapter, supposedly the final installment.

But Canned Dogs has word that the series has made an appearance in the mangabon Young Jump, featuring a one-shot about how lead doll Shinku was originally made. They also claim to have a “big announcement” next month, which fans are speculating will be that the series will continue serialization in Young Jump.

We can only hope desu~.

Rozen Maiden Kickboxing Desu!

By gia on January 19th, 2008   Misc, Videos

Japan Probe spotted a video of a maid café which bases itself on Rozen Maiden, which I’d heard of before, but in this video they’re actually offering a kickboxing class.

The maid who teaches the class first introduces them to her doll self (I say her, because she has boobs, but she refers to herself as “boku,” probably just a reference to the character Souseiseki, a female doll who does the same– just in case that confuses any of you). Then she gets them started on jabs and hooks, along with phrases based on the characters, like “nishiwa no jou” (I think that’s what they said– it would mean “Gardener’s Princess,” presumably a reference to Souseiseki’s twin, Suiseiseki) or “hanamaru kikku” (Flower Circle Kick).

All three girls who are the students are presumably part of the show that’s running this special. Two of them seem to find it kinda fun and funny, but one of them seems slightly horrified. It’s a good watch. ;)

All sorts of wacky stuff

It’s amazing how much harder it is to be incessantly devoted to posting news when someone isn’t paying you a living wage to do it!

That said, it’s time to play more catchup. This time, though, just the fun/cool/weird shit. Here goes.

  • Jojo’s Bizarre Adventure creator Araki Hirohiko managed to score a gig drawing the cover of an American science journal, says Canned Dogs. Career high or career low? You decide.
  • Blah blah blah D.C. comics, Random House, new distribution deal, etc.
  • A manga anthology created by a bunch of comedians ends publication after something like seven issues, to the surprise of…um, not me?
  • Just because many warez sites contain porn ads doesn’t mean the porn industry approves of copyright infringement. In fact, when it’s of their own material, companies will fight for the right to orgy.
  • Virginal loli magical girl + foul-mouthed military devotee tomboy = match made in heaven.
  • Really, really expensive swag.
  • Rozen Maiden’s Suigintou joins the racing circuit?
  • Aaand Motorou Mase’s manga Ikigami, which is centered around a guy who delivers an “Ikigami” paper to a person, who will then die in 24 hours, is getting a movie. The manga is about what these people do in the 24 hours they have left. Sounds kinda neat.

Suiseiseki - WTF Is This Shit
In the general run of things, I avoid dubs, on the grounds that they virtually always sound retarded to me.But since I started working at aO, where any number of dub fans hang around, I’ve been trying to be a bit more open-minded about them, y’know? So when a friend of mine sent me a link to some clips from the new Rozen Maiden dub saying that it was actually quite good, I checked it out.

Christ, there’s a lot of hullabaloo on the ‘net today. SlashThrough2007, Kodomo no Jikan, Anime > Sex at Wikipedia, Rozen Maiden ending, and all sorts of other junk.Let’s see, where to start…I guess the LJ thing sort of hit the fan first, so let’s get there, shall we? And I should note that since I’ve been a very poor LJ’er lately, I’m not necessarily the most up on how things went down…
